I’m not. Truly.
But Linux has made a fool of me. I gave it a go, Nine months I have persevered with the vagaries of Linux, double clicks and all. Finally, yesterday I lost my sound. I spent the afternoon looking at how to restore my sound. Linux is just too complicated for an average Joe, even an intelligent one like me.
4pm yesterday
I fired up an old drive with Windows XP
I have thrown in the towel. I am, reluctantly, going back to Windows. Linux will never be serious competition until they make it user friendly and not a friggin’ jigsaw puzzle. It’s okay if you’re a Geek, but alas, a Geek I am not.
So, my blogging has been a bit thin on the ground yesterday and today, as I switch between one and the other HD. Later today, I need t find the driver for the sound card in my ‘new’ PC, the old HD never had the driver installed.
[Lunch Break]
Back. Well, that was nice; an inch thick pork loin chop, with roast potatoes and gravy, accompanied by a chilled bottle of Eau de Tap.
I must away, and see if I can resolve the remaining problems, by applying my limited Geekery skills. At least when you install something, Windows does it.

Hmm, you situation is a very annoying one and thats perfectly understood. At the same time, I am curious as to which flavor of Linux you have been using? Rest assured, I understand that there is indeed a learning curve when it comes to working with Linux in general. In fact, I wrote about it in one of my earliest blogs. http://anthonyvenable110.wordpress.com/2011/10/10/how-i-got-started-with-linux/

>anthony, I am using Mandriva. I brought this PC because it had Linux installed, and I had long dreamed of removing Microsoft’s shackles from my life, and couldn’t understand why they didn’t. Now I do. The average Joe can run and manage Windows without ever having to open the cmd box, I guess a lot don’t even know it’s there. But if you have Linux, now that’s a different story. Learning curve… so is life, and I can manage that, even at 60. I am off to work, but I have opened you page for a read on my return. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Not a problem, I am not personally familiar with Mandriva since I have never used it. At the same time I have played with several flavors of Linux. So, perhaps I can help you choose a flavor you will actually enjoy more.

>Alex, sorry about the delay in replying. I have, in part, been thinking of your kind offer; and I haven’t totally discarded it yet. I am continuing with my move back to XP slowly. Maybe Mandriva is a maverick that makes it difficult. I found your articles enlightening re Linux. Thanks.

no problem, I think that if you use a different distro, that you would have a much easier time with Linux. I recommend Ubuntu or Linux Mint for example. Let me know what you think of that

>Anthony, sorry about the late reply, I am still thinking, but first I am back on XP and getting organised slowly. Once, I am ready, I’ll be in contact, because I am serious about an alternative to Microsoft.
