Brazil 1 – Germany 7
“Hosts Brazil suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in World Cup history as Germany scored five times in the first half in reaching the final.” – BBCNews
Brazil waited until the 90th minute to start its come back… too late.
Scolari will have some hard questions to answer; like why didn’t he put Jefferson in goal after the third German goal?
I came home after the fifth goal and opened the Chardonnay, not to celebrate, but it had one of those stupid screw caps and when I turned the bottle in the rack, it cracked the seal… Has to be drunk.
I am feeling very morose. Brazil is my adopted country and after 20+ years here to see Brazil lose so dramatically at home in its own World Cup cuts very deeply.
Now I fear the repercussions.
Will the people turn on the political aspects of the cup and the costs?
Will this sound the death knell for the PT political party and Dilma?
Will we witness a new round of civil unrest and destruction?
Later, I’m off to finish that Chardonnay.
As you get deeper into that bottle, the answers will be revealed to you.
What a terrible thrashing, what a shame for the host country.

We watched at 4am HK time. My wife asked: so am I wrong? Is Brazil playing in red? A fair question. I have never seen a top team capitulate so badly. Scolari behaved honourably at the end but his team were shell-shocked at 3-0, let alone 7. Germany has to remember that it has won a semi-final against a shockingly poor opponent. They have not won the cup. The wounds will only heal when Brazil wins their next World Cup.

>Andrew, watching TV at 4am, you’re barmy! Mind you, I’d do it. When i saw the German strip, I turned to a fellow Flamengo supporter and asked how Flamengo got into the cup… his reply, corruption. the bashing we got at 22, 23, 25 and 29 minutes, was unbelieveable.

What happened to Brazil was an interesting case study in human psychology. The run up to the match with Germany was a run of stories in the media about the loss of two key members of the Brazil team impacting their moral. Germany is technically good who exploit weaknesses in an opposing team. The destruction of the Brazil team mindset already doomed them to a massacre before their first kick of the ball against Germany. It is a similar situation to what the Netherlands goal keeper did to the Costa Ricans in the penalty shootout.

>Alex, not only the loss of two key members, but one who was there, we didn’t even hear his name for ten minutes, did he even touch the ball?

Sorry for you. As a German I am naturally happy and proud. I think brazilians are behaving very well considering. I remember watching Germany lose to England 5:1 in Germany a few years back….hurts.
