A brass monkey

A brass monkey and balls

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not bathing because it’s Saturday, I do bath on other days too.

Actually, I shower.

But the last two days being ball-freezing cold, I have neglected my bodily needs.

Clorinha doesn’t seem to mind.

Being purred to sleep each night is wonderful. She’s up/down onto the bed as soon as I am. The up/down depends whether she leaps from the floor or the window.

A solid boomp in the face, she snuggles under my chin, pushes her nose into my armpit, not a place where I’d put my nose voluntarily, and purrs me to sleep.

Now the brass monkey above, is not the same brass monkey that I used in my reference to ‘cold’. Although, it is often mistakenly so.

Also a brass monkey

Also a brass monkey

The saying comes from an old naval term; a brass square used to hold cannonballs on a ships decks.

Once the weather got cold enough, the brass plate would shrink and dislodge the cannonballs.

See, nothing to do with testicles at all.

This is also a Brass Monkey

Dark rum, vodka and 4x the amount of fresh orange juice.

I fully suspect that this might knock one’s testicles off; or at least severely batter them about a bit.

The world is just full of brass monkeys.

The Sun is out, still cool, but after 48 hours the rain has stopped.

Today is Brazil vs Holland to see who is the third place getter in this infernal World Cup.

Both countries, Argentina and Germany believe they have the advantage for tomorrow’s final.

One has a pope, the other has an ex-pope.

Battle of the Popes

Really, it’s out of FIFA’s hands right now.

Loftier decisions are being made.

Read an interesting irritating article yesterday. British parents have been prosecuted for taking their kids on holiday to Australia for three weeks during term time.

The law, once again, proves to be an ass. It also shows how woefully inadequate and screwed up our education systems are.

Those kids would have learned more in three weeks travelling than they would have learned in the same period in school.  I say that with some authority, having declared that since I have been travelling throughout South America, my education has been completed; actually, it is an ongoing process.

Well, the sunny day was short-lived, it’s raining again. I wonder if Clorinha has the sense to come in out of the rain today?

Speaking of cats, I am going for a trip down memory lane.

Yesterday I found two photos long forgottten archived of Ellen Suelen, my step daughter, when she was seven.

The subject was the birth of Hello Kitty’s first litter of kittens. The place, on the mat under my bed. Five tiny damp furry balls were produced witnessed by Ellen, who took an immense interest in the proceedings.

Ellen immersed in the procedings

Ellen immersed in the goings on under my bed

Ellen dutifully informed us of every bloody detail, much like  a football commentator, lurid in every aspect.

As the proceedings came to a close, Ellen rolled over and looked up at me

As the proceedings came to a close, kittens all safely latched to a teat, Ellen rolled over and looked up at me

“I’m not having kids!”

“Why?” I asked innocently. Unaware that I was about to wear the brunt of a seven-year-old’s logic.

“Too messy!”

With that little anecdote, today’s postings come to a close.

My dishes sneered at me again while making coffee, so I will nap to get over that, much cheaper than therapy.

Oh, lunch, weinerschnitzel and bruschetta.

I had planned on a bacon & egg breakfast, but as it’s 11:40, it doesn’t seem right any more.

Clorinha is safely out of the rain and asleep on the sofa.

Later.

Fartiferious

The panic button

Fartiferious, wonderful word, just rolls off the tongue, it almost has a smell of its own.

To me it has the air of being alone at home farting with delight whenever one has the urge.

Well, today is not so fartiferious. I am fartifearophobic – the fear of farting…

I have crook guts and an even dodgier bowels.

I will not bore you with further details in the interests of human decency.

Draino for use in cocktails

Draino for use in cocktails

I have spent a good part of the day napping trying to nap, but none to successfully.

I am not eating, just drinking water, if I thought the system would handle it, I’d make a Draino cocktail.

But, I don’t like ‘diet’ nor cans.

I have class soon, it’s not going to be pleasant walking the whole kilometre to get there with these cramps. But I have just had 2+ weeks off due to public holidays and I am skint.

I believe in live and let live. I do not kill things unnecessarily, except sodding mosquitoes and passion-fruit-vine-hungry caterpillars.

Last night a honey bee flew in the window. Now many would have been rushing for the Raid or whatever, but not me; bees are good, bees are necessary. I just didn’t particularly want this bee being a bee in my room. So, I swatted him with the back of my hand. Now bees are pretty resilient creatures, he shook his little head, dedazed himelf and realised he should be a bee being  bee somewhere else and flew back out the window.

Mother Nature sent me a ‘thank you card’.

The Blonde Bimbo (Dilma Rousseff, the president) made a state-of-the-nation address on Labor Day, in it she promised tax benefits for the poor and increased welfare. It’s election year this year, she wouldn’t be bucking for votes, now would she?  <—- Rehtorical question

Today, Clorinha seemed to have a change of heart. During one of attempts to nap she became all lovey dovey and wanted to be petted, she smooched and head butted me, it was lovely… until she bit me fiercely on the nipple! It was all a poly to distract me.

Undo/open any bag, package in the house and there she is doing her Dora the Explorer impression:

Turn the volume down, the laundry lady can’t stop talking.

Here’s something to think about, the future…

Just an Excuse

Friday 13th is just an excuse to lumber us with two Mondays in the one week. It’s a dastardly plan, one at each end. You suffer Monday, survive the rest of the week, slide down Humpday just to get back to Monday, its a cruel joke.

Yesterday, Fri 13th, was definitely a Monday. My trip to visit The Door was badly planned. I had not given any thought to this damned Rock in Rio and the access roads, which also happen to be main arterial routes, being closed. The traffic was mayhem.

benedictineGot my pay, eventually and went shopping. Found a bottle of Benedictine, of which I am partial, after I had already selected my customary two bottles of wine. Nearly choked on the price, R$134, that’s equal to five bottles of my normal wine price range. But such a rarity here that I couldn’t resist. Temptation is a terrible mistress.

I’ll be making a B&B later. Brandy and Benedictine, love the stuff.

Last night I was walking past the cocktail cabinet with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and ice, when I spied my bottle of Frangelico, couldn’t help but splosh in a generous measure. Quite pleasant, a new cocktail is born – The Orange Monk.

Cloro has pregressed… yes, from cockroaches to dragonflies. One flew into the house last night creating a terrible racket around the light. This was not missed by the ever-alert Cloro who was immediately transported to an intense state of the curious. For an hour his cute little head jerked to and fro following this strange apparition, until it flew too low, and that was the end of the story; one waggle of the feline hunter buttocks, pounce. I was lucky that he didn’t want to take it to bed, instead we slept together on the inner roll of the toilet paper. I don’t think I have ever done that before, it certainly wasn’t on my bucket-list.

Not Amora, but there wasn't a Blueberry image

Not Amora, but there wasn’t a Blueberry image

Throughout my life I have heard of the American passion for blueberries, jams, pies and the like. Last week searching the supermarket shelves for marmalade, I saw a jar of blueberry jam. Must try, said I.

The price was high, but one must splash out on little luxuries occasionally. R$10…

I must say, I wasn’t impressed. I’ve had it on toast twice now and would have preferred amora (blackberries) or black currant.

I won’t be rushing to buy it again; this is a oncer.

I am not impressed by Twitter’s latest move to be listed on the stock exchange. It piques me to think that other people will get financial benefits of the gullible Twits. I am seriously thinking of chucking it in. I have to get my head around it before making a decision. For me the internet is more of a hobby, and to think that other rich bastards are going to get richer on MY hobby more than miffs me.

Hot day promised, 34°C (94°F), I think that beer will be the order of the day.

Off to put more in the fridge.

Later.
