Voices in my Head

Voices telling me to do the things I didn't do yesterday

Voices telling me to do the things I didn’t do yesterday

I have been having problems with this old monitor. The screen has narrowed and now the brightness is disappearing. So I have been chasing up my techy type to get a rattle on and get my old LCD monitor back and going.

So I haven’t had the time to get this post out.

Oh, the Kick Ass virus that the students said they got from my lappy at work; turns out it is a virus that has infected their PCs at work, and not me after all.

That’s good news; at least my lappy isn’t infected.

I managed to get my List of Things to do Yesterday done today.

So I consider the day a success.

I had this many

I had this many

I had a fabulous lunch today… Hotdogs.

Okay, not so fabulous, but quick and easy.

Of course, I had Nap-fu practice afterwards; then a stroll around the park and stopped at the botequim to watch an Arsenal game.

And here I am. Hardly an exciting day.

I read that US waistlines have increased an inch in the last decade, wonderful.

Further reading was rather revealing. All those sweeteners we consume (well, not me if I can avoid them) to lose weight… well, it appears they do exactly the opposite. Saccharin, Aspartame and Sucrulose all effect the bacteria in the gut and increase blood sugar levels.

Now we have to get all the manufacturers to stop using them. Haha, fat chance! (pun intended)

The Colombian cycling team is in the news.

They have been called scandalous and an affront to decency. Personally, I think it’s a hoot. There are some dull dreary people around.

That’s about the lot for today. I must get on to my mail box.

Later.

Gherkins, Gouda & Garlic

Comfort food.

Gouda cheese

I had gherkins, Gouda, Gruyère and garlic pretzels during the Holland vs Costa Rica game, along with two litres of guava juice. Funny how life can be full of alliteration.

I happened to ponder, while eating the Gouda cheese, yes that’s the one with the holes. Does the air in the holes weigh something, are we paying for air content?

I’ve been slow with comments and visiting the blogs of commenters the last couple of days, but I have been out of sorts, a bit. The good news is, that my mail box is now empty, I have caught up.

Krul, the arsehole

Krul, the arsehole

The Holland/Costa Rica game left a sour taste in my mouth. I really hope, now, that Holland get sent packing in the semis. The behaviour of the Dutch goalie Krul was reprehensible. He was put on just before the end of the extra time so that he faced the Costa Ricans, I am sure this was planned. He approached each of the Costa Rican shooters and threatened them, psyched them out and the BLOODY REF, once again, did NOTHING! He should be hung drawn and quartered.

I have never seen anything so deplorable on the football field, ever.

Another example of the abysmal standard of reffing in this World Cup. FIFA needs to be pulled up and taken to task over this bullshit.

</rant>

No football until Tuesday… oh woe is me. I’ll have to find something constructive to do. The dishes are done, the plants dewiltered, played with Clorinha in the praça… now what?

Let me check my SD card and see if there’s some inspiration…

Now to find something constructive to do… hmmm!

I am at a loss

The ramifications haven’t quite sunk in yet, neither for myself or most Brazilians.

Brazil won the game yesterday over Colombia, but at a high cost.

Neymar was challenged by Napoli defender Juan Zuniga late in the game

Neymar was challenged by Napoli defender Juan Zuniga late in the game – BBC

A dirty tackle, a knee in the back sent Neymar off in agony with a fractured vertebra; a foul that was left unpunished and left Neymar out of the cup.

Which prompted the question “Was this the dirtiest game so far?”

Brazil has made to the semi-finals where they play Germany.

Undoubtedly Neymar was Brazil’s key, without the key can we unlock the door to the finals.

In the last three games, Neymar was hunted, persecuted. Had he been a European player the matter would have been pursued rigorously.

The refereeing in this cup has been deplorable, not only Brazilian games, but overall. The most noticeable was Nigeria being denied a penalty, the referee just wasn’t interested.

The integrity of all FIFA matches is in doubt with the current referees.

Septic Blathermouth needs to change the game and bring in technology oriented ‘third referee’ decisions. He says it would ruin the game, but cricket has had it for decades and the game has never been ruined.

b-murphysstout440ml4PK-2Yesterday was BBQs to the right, BBQs to the left, lots of fireworks, but no cannon. I broke out some of my treasured cans of Murphy’s Irish Stout, such was the importance of the game.

I had local brew with the earlier game.

Today, I am drinking fresh guava juice… 🙂

There’s no need to explain why.

I am late on deck today, feeling a bit demoralised and not really in the mood for blogging.

So with Brazil in the semis, I have no classes on Tuesday…

I am off to wallow in my pity.

After Yesterday’s Fiasco

Clorinha being a book under my lappy table

Clorinha being a book under my lappy table

The first thing I did this morning when I woke up was to take a nap.

I guess most people would call it sleeping in.

I was so cozy with Clorinha purring under my chin, I didn’t have the heart to move; so I fell asleep again.

She is growing up and getting bigger.

Today is another footballess day. (Should that have three ‘l’s?)

Tomorrow is a different story. Brazil vs Colombia. Brazilians have a day off, so do the Colombians.

Brazil-vs-Colombia-World-Cup

An important day for both countries.

Yesterday’s lunch:

yesterdayslunch

Which goes part way to explaining my M.I.A. day.

intel-inside-idiot-outsideI found this, which might have been more applicable for yesterday’s post.

Yesterday at the supermarket, I nearly bought some Australian wine… screw caps, back on the shelf.

Pity, it looked good too.

The neighbour’s cat who sneaks in and steals Clorinha’s food has taken a liking to me at the botequim and always comes for a pet.

The neighbour's cat

The neighbour’s cat

She’s beautiful and got a belly full of paws and claws.

But she will give Clorinha a box around the ears; and won’t come near me at home.

Although she’s getting game, she just appeared at the bedroom door, looked at me then scarpered.

Lunch will be fried fish leftovers, they were for yesterday, but BBQ took preference.

Cool sunny day, class at 5:30.

This World Cup has played havoc with my teaching hours. I won’t know until the end of the game tomorrow if I have a class on Tuesday or not. If Brazil wins, I don’t have class; if Brazil loses, I have class.

I came home yesterday and found this…

Beer crates outside my gate

My immediate thought was “There is a God after all”, then I realised they were empties waiting to be loaded on the truck. Back to being an atheist.

I am looking at doing something constructive after this post, first lunch, then I may divide one of my pot plants into two pots. I could look at the dishes… but then that’s all I’ll do; I can’t ruin my reputation by doing them three times in a week.

Tummy rumbling, a sure sign that I need to eat.

Later.

I got all excited

Indeed, I was all a dither.

No, no, not with the football, that was to come later.

kitchesink

It’s not a myth, my sink does have a bottom

I actually got so carried away that I did the dishes.

Yes, I found the bottom of the kitchen sink… it’s still there.

Such a rare and momentous occasion, I took a photo, because I know by comments, that some may actually doubt that the bottom of my kitchen sink is ever visible.

Anticipating the cup already

Later, I got all excited again. This time it was the football. Brazil vs Chile. I wore my new investment.

We had a good crowd at the botequim. I wasn’t the only one dressed in his Brazilian finery. We had our funny hats too.

Following the win, I broke out my bottle of Johnny Walker reserved for such occasions.

We settled down for the two hour wait for the next game Colombia vs Uruguay, Colombia sent Uruguay packing 2-0.

So Brazil plays Colombia in the quarter finals.

Much merriment, as can be seen in the following video clip.

So, I got all excited twice yesterday.

Now, I’m off to watch the rest of Holland vs Mexico…

Later.
