I’m in Between

creativityfluidAnd I’m sweating because it’s not worth shedding my clothes only to put them on again in an hour.

I’m in between one class and the next. I had things so beautifully planned today, five hours straight teaching, then my second student cancelled and made a hole right in the middle.

If this had happened yesterday, I would have expected it. I mean Monday is the day for this type of shit to hit the fan.

I seriously need some creativity fluid.

Talking of fans, I am buying two new ones tomorrow. I have one broken and one that is on crutches and likely to topple at any given moment. Last two days have been 40+ºC (that’s 106+ºF), that’s hot enough to deep fry chocolate left on the bench. Today is not so, but abafado (hot and stuffy). Last night, the fan on crutches was making grating sounds, it took me more than an hour to shut it up and run quietly. The one I have in the bedroom is essential for sleeping and blogging; which means that watching TV raises more than a sweat even with the door and windows open.

I read today that American drone use constitutes a war crime. Let’s see how many Americans are prosecuted. This’ll be interesting.

It was reported on Twitter, during the FaceBook outage yesterday, that there were people roaming the streets with baby photos begging for ‘Likes’.

I saw this yesterday; tickled my fancy…

I almost felt sorry for the spider.

I thought about it…

I lacked half the ingredients

Yes, I thought about bacon and eggs for breakfast, but I lacked half the ingredients, eggs. So that idea went by the board.

So I had coffee, blogged and a nap.

Hamburgers for lunch, cheese bacon and mushroom, yum yum.

Brazilian restaurants are racing against time. Next week the Confederations Cup begins, then in 2014 FIFA World Cup. This means that there are going to be a lot of visitors who have no notion of Portuguese; and waiters who have similar ideas about English, em passe. Some restaurants are getting their menus translated, some have recruited English teachers, and some have had their fare loaded onto tablets with translation facilities and images of the food.

This is picanha, alcatra, contra-file, etc

This is picanha, alcatra, contra-file, etc

One restaurant has the novel idea of stuffed animals.

The customer doesn’t know, the waiter can’t explain, he simply shows a stuffed cow for beef.

They even have a stuffed Kermit, because carne da rã (frog portions) is popular here and many restaurants serve it.

Cooler today, I haven’t tried to turn the sun off… there is no sun, somebody beat me to it.

The Americans have finally found a civilised use for drones instead of bombing the shit out of Pakistan and such places…

Technology should be used for peaceful purposes.

Not Eremophobic

There, bet that’s got you running to the Great God Google…

Each team are carried in the manner they deserve

I had this picture sent to me by a Vasco fan, of course, I am a Flamengo supporter.

From top left, clockwise – Vasco, Botafogo, Fluminense and Flamengo.

My only retort was that ‘boiolas‘ (gays) need buses, real men use trucks! While that may have been stereotyping and running the risk of offending a minority, here in Brazil such things are understood, implicitly. There was no returning comment….

Ganhei! (I win!).

Monday again. This is the start of a poor week. Actually two. I have two students less this fortnight while they are in the US for a course. Only one of them knows for certain he is returning to lessons after the trip. So, not many classes., four in fact.

I was up early, 5am; then I was down again, then up again and down again. Now I am up again. It’s been a very up and down type of day.

Israeli Heron Drone

I have, in my moments of lucidity, written/posted on each of my blogs; which has been a rarity of late. Maxine on Monday is always a giggle, then I wrote about the Train that’s not in the clouds, Vietnamese coffee – no that’s not an oxymoron (and a draft for a post tomorrow). I had a good Monday Moaning and wrote a post which will probably get the Israeli’s sending a drone to exterminate me; Shit Happens.

Sometimes things really get up my nose and are more irritating than nose-hairs.

I have also had lunch, fed the cat, done the dishes and…. yes, and….

I was thinking about eremophobia yesterday. I did it in style, with a beer looking out over the park. Loneliness, for sixty years I have had mother, it’s always been comforting. I have never been alone before; mother was always there. Not here in Brazil, but there, at home. After the phone call last Saturday, it may not be for much longer. As the elder in the family, with whom I have little contact, we have never been a close unit, I will be alone for the first time in my life. Not sure how I will handle that.

Still working on the details.

I am a hermit by nature. I have always been a loner. All my sports were individual things, shooting I excelled at, the others were amusements. I traveled alone, I would have hated to have a travel partner to consult, as I tend to make radical and sudden changes to itineraries and plans.

I have now lived alone for four years since I separated from Shirley. I don’t feel alone, I’ve got my PC, all my friends are in there… well, most of them, I have a few in the botequim (neighbourhood bar) next door as well, and some at work. I don’t feel lonely, Lixo P. Cat sees to that; an ankle rub here, a meow there, a bite of the big toe at 3am.

This is new for me, intro-reflection.

Time for my lesson. *Presses ‘pause’ button on thinking*
