That Funky Monkey

Thi, apprently, is a Funky Monkey

This, apprently, is a Funky Monkey

Yes, that funky monkey again.

Last night was brass monkey weather, even more so than the previous day and night.

Not often I have to resort to a blanket on the bed here in Rio, but last night it was essential.

MWPG left a comment about a brass monkey, it’s a Beastie Boy’s song. That’s where the post title came from… Funky Monkey was in the song.

Now, I have heard of the Beastie Boys, but never consciously listened, nor even knew any of their songs. Having now heard the Beastie Boys, I am in no doubt as to why. The cacophony was so painful that I had to switch it off and look up the lyrics to find the connection alluded to by MWPG.

I’m sorry MWPG, but there are some things that should just be put out of their misery.

I am a wiser man today.

I noted the other day (WordPress report) that this blog has 696 followers, wow, great. But as I only get at most 16 likes (that’s a new record) for the posts… I am left wondering what the rest of you are doing with your left hands as you scroll through my words with the right. Because you are certainly not using it to press the ‘Like’ button! I know some of my posts have sex, and some are even perverse, but stop doing that… you’ll go blind.

Why do people complicate simple things? I hit a page yesterday that perpetuated the myth that brass monkeys losing their balls was a reference to testicles. redxcloseIt was a Brazilian blog in Portuguese, I wrote a reply in my best Portuguese handwriting, and then discovered that I had to go through a series of painful contortions in order to post the comment, couldn’t be bothered, so I hit the big red X.

I see that Israel is hell-bent on genocide again. Netanyahu is using this latest round of rockets from Gaza as his excuse. The few rockets that Palestinians are capable of sending does not warrant the sledgehammer tactics being used to annihilate a whole people. And they are looking at getting a bigger hammer. Despite lip-service to the peace protest, Netanyahu is just not interested in peace, he will settle for nothing but extermination.

After the cold night, the sun is out, the washing is on the line and today is the final of the world cup. Then the world can return to normal.

Now if Argentina put this team in the field, would the Germans even be worried about the ball?

Ball, what ball?

Ball, what ball?

What a Messi that would be!

The game yesterday showed that the Brazilian team is getting better again; only three goals against instead of seven. That’s more than a 50% improvement.

I still think the silly hats should win.

Or perhaps FIFA could hold a facing-painting cup…

And… the prize goes to the man in the rolled gold trilby and transparent head! Quote from the Goon Show.

I see a suggestion that surfing should become an Olympic sport, why not face-painting? The ancient Greeks would roll in their graves.

Lunch today… Feijoada

Feijoada - you don't want to know what's in it

Feijoada – you don’t want to know what’s in it

Feijoada is basically black baked beans and parts of the pig you never knew existed. It’s wonderful!

Blogging right along. Two to go.

Life is Crap

outofcoffeecrapI have drunk what was leftover from yesterday; and my eyes are so heavy, I’m too lazy tired to make fresh.

In my post, Sunday Slap Dash, no one picked up that I was talking about Riesling, but posted Sauvignon Blanc. I was, in fact considering Riesling, then discovered the bottle was fizzy, so I swapped canoes in midstream and ended up using the SV, while still thinking Riesling.

vegndirtywordYesterday, I saw a post where vegan was written as veg*n. Is veg*n a dirty word?

Had me wondering.

Then today I saw ‘vegucated’; our language is growing, hopefully organically.

Not much going on today, posted on all blogs and it only took two mugs of coffee, no penises, testicles nor bacon; I ate the last of that last night, horrendously delicious. Today is black beans and pig bits, the Brazilians call it feijoada (black beans and pig bits).

Work starts today at 2pm and finishes at 7:30. It’s my longest day of the week. Cloro does not like this as she is at home all by herself with an advanced license in mischief and nobody to trip up in the kitchen. When I get home, she transforms into a werekitten (lycanthropy), fangs, claws and energy in all directions. Then at bedtime, because she slept all day, she wants to play…

Here we go again!

feetscalesYup, that Monday thing.

So far nothing has gone wrong… I am waiting patiently.

Well, sort of. I arranged my work hours so they were uniform during the week, when my last factory student went to France for two years. Then I was informed over the weekend I have a new student at the factory, so my Monday and Tuesday hours get shifted to accommodate the new student. Nothing is ever simple.

I have new tomato plants growing. Which means in a few weeks I’ll have free tomatoes. I had a half-used one on the fridge, so I squeezed it over the compost heap and now have a dozen 4″ tomato seedlings on the way.

I had a break and read the news, then I had a nap and read the news again; it’s still bad everywhere.

Guess what’s for lunch?

That’s right, feijoada. I have this huge pot full to eat. Tomorrow I’ll have to freeze it for the weekend, because it won’t last.

Tastes like Chicken

“Gustatus Similis Pullus” which translates to “Tastes like chicken”

Interesting.

A blog that looked in on one of mine, had this link, and one part of the post captured my attention.

“This patch belongs to the U.S. Air Forces 509th bomb wing crew who flew B-2 stealth bomber test flights in the late 1940′s and early 50′s. www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/03/31/science/0401-PATCH_2.html?_r=0. I definitely think that extraterrestrial technology had much to do with secret air force air craft, and still does to this very day.

It looks like a pitch fork on the left side with a couple of lightning bolts on the right side. It looks like the stealth bomber is being grasped by an extraterrestrial.”

Check out the link above for more info.

Browsing around blogs and Google produces many and varied interesting facts. I can waste a whole day doing that.

not-stupidToday I found references to “Google makes you stupid”

Does it?

I can understand the reference to ‘information overload’, but I doubt it makes you stupid, not in the same sense as watching Faux News or CNN.

I will also agree that it has changed my reading habits, I skim over so much to get the nuts and bolts, only delving deeper when a topic is of particular interest.

Today was all planned. Ex & kids were due over for a feijoada. Time crept on and there was no answer to her cellphone; I know she has had problems with it. So I began to prepare the meal, chop and boil the salted pork, etc and in the end I had everything in the pot. About 1pm, she rang, just woke up full of flu’, make it next week.

So I had feijoada for lunch and then a nap.

Am I being spied on?

feedjPaloAltoGood question. I note that whenever I post on any of my blogs, I get visited by one of two sites; Palo Alto or Mountain View both in California within seconds of the post going live. The links are not traceable as to source nor IP.

I would not be at all surprised, given my views on almost everything American mostly being negative…

See, Google hasn’t made me stupid; yet.

Well, that does it for today. I’m off to watch the rest of the Sunday football (soccer) game.

Later.

Oh, so Intenso…

Yes, I am continuing on my ‘intense’ coffee streak.

As I explained yesterday today is a public holiday. St George’s Day, the world appears dead outside and it’s 10am. I heard the breadman tooting his horn, but apart from that; nothing!

Even Lixo knows it’s a holiday, after breakfast so far he has slept on the clean washing, he has slept under the coffee table and now he is sleeping on the sofa; he’s a cat, he does a lot of sleeping and he does it well.

Conundrum_red_Wine_zoomI have been rescued from a conundrum.

Not that type of Conundrum, I would hardly need rescuing from that, unless I over-imbibed.

Back in February I lamented about not being able to add one of my favourite widgets, Feedjit, to my WordPress blogs.

Well, last night I got a comment from a kind gentleman, Dante in Italy, who recognised my plight and gave me the link to his post on how to. If you have a need, check his post out, it has an obscure link to Feedjit that works. I promised him an honorable mention in dispatches to go along with my OBE… Other Bugger’s Efforts

I was testing my camera out the other day, and happened to point it at my modest wine rack.

No Conundrum here

No Conundrum here

Pity, I would like some Conundrum.

It has two more bottles on top now. I got a couple of sweet wines for my ex yesterday. She has this nasty habit of taking my good dry wines and adding sugar to her taste. Disgusting habit, I would much prefer that she pick her nose, or something similar than abuse a good dry wine.

She is coming over next Sunday with the whole famn damily to cook Feijoada for lunch.

Now feijoada is a typical Brazilian dish, usually served on Fridays or Saturdays. It’s difficult to explain to a palate not from Brazil. Black baked beans, with meat.

Now it’s the meat that’s the problem. Much of the meat used would make the average western stomach heave with disgust. Pigs ears, trotters and tails for example, they are salted and are actually quite tasty. Other meats include bacon, smoked calabresa sausage, salted pork cuts and ribs.

Almost always served with rice and couve (kale).

Meanwhile, my lunch today will be much simpler. Curried chicken on rice; which I really must consider making. It will be a heavy curry which will necessitate retiring to the botequim for beer o’clock afterwards; and that is probably where I will stay for the rest of the afternoon basking in the sunshine although the air temperature is cool.
