A Mucky Day

My laundry lady is about this old

My laundry lady is about this old

Laundry lady came.

Chatter.

Laundry lady went.

Chatter stopped.

The day started out sunny, then it unsunnied and remained cloudy for the rest of the day.

Things didn’t pan out the way I planned today. So I had a beer and went home for some Nap-fu practice.

The chorizo (black pudding) didn’t arrive.

The sausage man didn’t arrive.

The fridge man didn’t arrive.

Had some more Nap-fu practice.

Football time.

I was an hour early. Still can’t get the hang of this bloody daylight savings time.

Football…

Football finished.

It wasn’t my team, they played yesterday and won 4-0.

No fridge = no food.

Got dressed and called a taxi. More than an hour later it arrived. You can’t imagine what I was calling that taxi!

Dinner out.

Home… and here I am.

That about sums up my day.

A total non-event.

Later, I’m off to bed.

I missed the deadline

list1Yes, all things being as they should have been, I had planned a late afternoon/evening post.

But that was overtaken by the need to pay a bill, which I had planned to pay in the morning but nobody was in the office and necessitated a return in the afternoon.

I arrived home and the botequim was open. It was a stinking hot day, so there was only once course of action to be taken.

So the post was delayed by beer. Then there was more beer, as I watched the sky cloud over. The subject turned to rain, would it. or wouldn’t it? Recent days have seen the sky cloud over and produce nary a drop of rain.

Then there was Brazil vs Turkey, nice result 4-0 to us.

However, yesterday it did rain. Not an awful lot, but more than the miserable efforts of last week

The intended post was then delayed by the local news, the dishes and then further delayed by the national news. The end of the news, and I was beset by a severe bout of the yawns and drooping eyelids; I hadn’t had my customery Nap-fu practice. The TV was turned off, couldn’t even stay awake for the football.

Today, I must get onto some posting; and this is the first.

I mentioned doing the dishes, which leaves me wondering why I still have a sink full of them…

This morning, first coffee, second coffee, watered the plants just to be sure, third coffee… and here I am.

It’s cool out there at the moment, but the sky is cloudless, and the prospect of a return to hot, hot is high on the cards.

Nothing planned for today, except classes in the evening.

Exciting news, one of my plants has flowered. I didn’t even know this plant had flowers, so I am quite excited.

Not a fancy orchid-like flower, but a flower never-the-less

Not a fancy orchid-like flower, but a flower never-the-less

That was taken a couple of days ago, a single yellow petal with the sexy bits rising from it. Now there are little buds growing at the bases the fluffy bits. I assume they are seeds. I love watching the natural aspects of life. It takes ones mind off the rigours of the day. This is something that many people have forgotten how to do… relax.

Silly Box: Japan is going to restart at least one of their nuclear reactors, another chance for another Fukushima; just in case the world didn’t get totally destroyed by the first. If you’re going to do a job, don’t be half-assed about it.

Kirchner from Argentina was reported to be in a stable condition in hospital. That would be a first; she’s never been stable.

The Qatar bid for the 2022 World Cup report is due today, and expected to say no skullduggery was found. That’s bullshit. It has to be a white wash. Every aspect of their bid as reported in the news showed kickbacks, payments for changing votes, expensive presents. Makes me wonder how much the author of the report was paid/given… sucks.

The outgoing president of Uruguay has been offered $1m for his old VW Beetle by an Arab sheik. Honestly some people have more money than brains. What the hell would make a VW Beetle worth that much? But true to form, the world’s poorest president plans to donate the money to a charity that he supports. Which is where most of his salary goes.

Okay, fourth coffee coming up, and I continue to play the waiting game.

Later.

HAHA Update!

What did I say above?

The investigator of the FIFA bidding process has said that the report released by FIFA is WRONG. “contains numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations of the facts and conclusions”. -BBCNews

Laughing all the way, I knew it, I just knew it.

Hot Spell

I wish my neighbour hadn't sold his pick up

I wish my neighbour hadn’t sold his pick up

H – O – T

That’s how you spell it.

Yes, our hot spell continues. More than a month without rain and very low humidity. The bushes in the praça are suffering, all doing a serious wilt. I have to water Clorinha’s guava tree each day. Now it has plenty of new shoots.

All my plants get a good water daily too. The two guava trees (one pink and the other white fruit) have heaps of blossoms, so it looks like a bumper crop.

It’s about 40ºC+ (106ºF) at the moment.

Last night was a disaster at work. Three classes and not one student arrived. 4½ hours of waiting.

fridayAll I can say is TGIF, but then I have another screwed up Saturday ahead with classes. I can’t complain because I need them, The factory where we get a lot of students from has issued a directive that all language class contracts are cancelled as from the end of October. They are feeling the economic pinch too. I know that I have lost one student and I’ll find out about the Friday night group tonight.

Not cooking lunch today, it’s too hot.

I’ll cheat and wait for an after work pizza, and let them steam their buns off.

Not surprised. New Zealand got a place on the UN Security Council by sucking up to the Americans and letting them spy on the internet.

I read a shocking story last night. Whisper app is the most dangerous place to be. They are stooges for the American spying apparatus.

Twitter is to begin retweeting tweets to your timeline in case you missed them. They plan to retweet tweets that maybe of interest to you… If they get that as wrong as they get people for me to follow it’s another useless freakin’ exercise.

12 red cards

12 red cards

How to play Argentine football. Twelve red cards in one match. I can’t decide if that’s awesome or abysmal. See the brawl on video for yourself. All I can say is thank heavens they don’t play cricket, they’d be armed with bats as well.

According to a medical charity, so far all the efforts to combat Ebola are having no impact.

I don’t usually drink on work days. But… it’s so hot, a liquid lunch is on the cards. I’ve got six hours to sleep it off.

The botequim is opening, I can hear the sliders going up…

I’m off, it just became beer o’clock!

Later.

*Puts pants on*

Ta Dah!

I know you are all waiting…

My first attempt at making makimonos.

The first half dozen

The first half dozen makimonos

Okay, they’re not exactly round, and I couldn’t get them to close off nicely; too much filling.

So I ate the ugly ones, and made some more…

Getting better

Getting better

That’s the platter that went to the botequim. None came back alive; the makimonos that is, not the fregües (regulars)!

They were what we call here in Brazil Filedefia, salmon with cream cheese coloured off with chopped parsley.

Learning curve – I cooked way too much rice; which turned out perfect btw.

Today, I am going to roast off the salmon skin and have a go at making nigris, I hope the rice survived the night in the fridge.

bloodtypeWheee!

This is fun.

I’m addicted to love coffee!

Just made fresh. Had to use yesterday’s leftover first. I hate waste.

Apparently, the Queen does NOT purr, as per David Cameron’s remark when referring to HM’s reaction to the Scots referendum.

He said that he’s embarrassed and apologised to HM for the off hand remark.

HM was not amused. These royals are such a stuffy lot.

notpurrGoogle has been threatened with a $6bn fine if it doesn’t play ball with the European over their methods of prioritising search results. Google is just too big for its boots.

Nasty little buggers

Aedes aegypti – Nasty little buggers

Two bits of news from Brazil. First Brazil refused to sign the deforestation pact; the blonde bimbo was miffed that the world didn’t consult Brazil when making the draft.

Secondly, Brazilian researchers have turned the Aedes aegypti mosquito against itself. That’s the one that causes dengue fever which can be fatal. They’ve got a bacteria that turns the second generation sterile; so reducing the breeding population.

Reports show that where the mosquitoes have been released in other parts of the world there has been a 30% reduction in numbers.

Shellshock! There is another new bug out there. According the report Heartbleed affected 500,000 pcs, this new one has a potential reach of 5 million. And what’s worse, is that where Heartbleed was a sniffer, Shellshock allows the machine to be controlled. It is aimed at Macs and Linux… You can read about it on BBCNews.

TEASER-Barack-Obama-coffee-cup-saluteThe Latte Salute… Obama is in the poo again. Returning a military salute with a Starbucks cup in his right hand. The disrespect caused a bit of a ruckus on Twitter.

Watched football last night. Flamengo vs São Paulo 2-2, so am tired today.

I’m off to unwilt my plants, by then it will be time for Nap-fu practice.

Short day today, lessons start at 4pm.

Botejão

Botejão

Yes, I nearly was…

The gas bottle ran out this morning, fortunately not while I was making coffee, but rather heating water to softening some plastic hose to join for the garden. If it had failed while making coffee, that would have been an unmitigated disaster.

I had to change the gas before lunch… which is on the go. Had trouble sealing the new gas bottle, can you imagine the bang of 13kgs of gas?

Me neither, and I don’t particularly want to find out!

*Pause*

Lunch and beer o’clock…

Lunch curried beef on rice. Enough left over to make curry rolls tomorrow.

Reading  new blog from an older blogger today. I had to laugh.

List of things to do:

4. Sex in German – ja, ja, oh mein Gott, schneller, schneller, ja, ja, das ist ausgezeichnet… what a sexy language.

5. Learning German so that I can understand what’s going on during the sex.

General Toyplasma Gondii

General Toxyplasma Gondii

A while ago I wrote about Toxoplasma gondii, it’s a bacteria that many people have caught from cats, up to 60% of the population. Turns out that this bacteria loves to eat cancer cells.

Oh, I hope I’ve got this bacteria.

Looks like we should all be wallowing in the kitty litter… better than chemotherapy, and much cheaper.

Not sure if many of you know, that some of the memes that I post, particularly on this blog, are my own work. Or is it that bad you can tell?

I see an idea and get an urge to open CorelDraw and make my own idea, or interpretation.

For me they are fun. To poke fun at anyone and anything is the spice of life.

Now that I have washed the dishes, cooked, eaten and has ome beer, I feel an intense urge for some Nap-fu practice.

It’s Sunday, after all. Football in one hour fifty minutes… yes, Nap-fu should kill that easily.

Later.

Not sure if I want to

Now I'm plucking ideas from the clouds

Now I’m plucking ideas from the clouds

Several times earlier in the day, I made to post here, but thought, no it’s too early.

Now it’s later, and I’m not sure if I want to anymore.

Maybe I should have when I had the impetus, then I wouldn’t be writing this rubbish.

So far the most exciting thing I’ve done is throw out an orange that was trying to be a planet; in that it was growing a host of little furry green colonies all over it.

But then I did go to the supermarket, that sent a brief shiver of excitement up the spine.

I didn’t stay long, it was Wednesday, full of ignorant women hunting the meat bargains. I stayed well away from the butchery as I have passed the evolutionary stage of being a hunter/gatherer and the need to fight for my meat. I threw the basics of what I needed in the shopping cart and ran straight into a brick wall.

checkoutbrickwallOf the 14 checkouts, five were operating. Yes, it was lunch time. Each of the checkouts was knee deep in angry women.

Eventually, I escaped unscathed, although I can’t say the same for my bank card.

Football has started. Argentina vs Germany somewhere, which is a fair indication that it’s beer o’clock.

No classes today, so I will heed the plaintif cries emanating from the botequim.

Later.

An orange want to be a planet

Lie kid’ll armpit

brazil-loss-to-germany-memeThere, figure that one out before the end of this post.

Sweet dreams are made of these… It came to me at some stage through the night. I had to get up at 2:30am to write it down for fear of forgetting it. It’s an entry from an old book called New Zild and How to Speak it.

There are many jokes around the net about the Brazilian catastrophe. I think that this was the best. Given the levels of agony, sadness and shame experienced by Brazil, you have to bounce back.

Personally, I was so affected by the drama, that several times I found myself  trying to move the cursor with my cigarette packet instead of the mouse; taking time to recognise the error.  When you sink to this level of desperation, it’s definitely time for more coffee.

At least Brazil’s defeat provided some excitement, unlike yesterday’s game, Holland vs Argentina which prompted on commentator on BBC to say that the tedium of a game of chess is more exciting. I was in class, so I didn’t see the game, but I had the BBC page open for live comments on the game. I saw the last few minutes of extra time and the shoot out, that was exciting.

The upshot is that Brazil now play Holland on Saturday for third place, surely we can manage that. Dutch manager is grumbling about their ignominious fate.

Headline news! Justin Bieber got two years probation for the hideous offence of vandalism. Why didn’t the judge just give him a red card and send him home? Or at least ban him from singing ever again, now that would be a community service.

Pamploma – image: BBC

Two men were gored by bulls in the annual Pamploma Bull Run. Idiots abound.

No sympathies from this quarter.

FIFA are a bunch of bloody cowards. In the matter of the Colombian who destroyed the Brazilian team, they have found no cause to interfere with the referee’s decision. That’s the whole point, the referee didn’t make a decision.

Maybe FIFA should be sent to Pamploma… Let the bulls make a decision, or an incision or two.

erdinger-weissbierJust in… No, not the Bieber again! News.

A pub in Galway, Ireland reduced the price of a pint of Erdinger by 50 cents for every German goal; by the end of the night punters were paying 50p a pint, the poor bar manager was in a state of panic.

Apparently it paid off, because the pub was packed for the next semi the following night.

Been trying to rain all day, it wets the ground a bit, then buggers off; an hour later, it does it again. The day is so dull that I have the light on.

I must blog along, the emails about comments and visits have mounted up again.

I’ll leave you with this bit of real estate news…

MaracanaForSale

Oh, I am a naughty boy.

Did you manage to figure out the post title?

Try this: “Like it, or lump it” But if you are a Kiwi or not, that’s the way we talk.

Later. (I’m lying this time)

Delerium Tremens

Or the DTs, literally means shaking frenzy, and are usually suffered by those dependent when deprived of alcohol.

Drink deprivation in my case is not the problem; I have more alcohol in the house than food. (I’ll have to figure out what that says about me…)

halfwayBut going cold turkey for two days without football, is driving me to drink. Now I’m not sure where Drink is, but according to the sign, I’m halfway there.

I’ll let you know when I arrive.

This morning at 7:15 I was seriously trying to go back to sleep after rolling over. I suddenly had a terrible urge for fried eggs. Sleep was forgotten as I bounced out of bed.

Then I discovered there was no ‘yesterday’s coffee’, which meant that I had to make fresh. As a result of being pre-Coffee, I was a little terse in my reply to a comment on yesterday’s post. Belatedly, I apologise. I have fresh coffee now and the world is looking wonderful, despite the fact that it is MONDAY!

New plants

New plants

I did do something constructive yesterday.

A new plant that I bought a couple of weeks ago was in a small pot and the size indicated that it would be getting root-bound. So I got it out, attacked it with my old kitchen knife and hacked it carefully in two.

I now have two new plants. I have no idea what it is they are, but they’re pretty. Perhaps MWPG, who knows lots about plants, will recognise it and put me out of my misery.

At least I didn’t kill it. This morning they are still standing.

Monday, sunny, sunshine reflecting on my monitor through the window, means it’s time to make my eggs. By the time I return I will be able to continue without this nasty glare.

A comment overheard in the botequim yesterday as I was having my afternoon bottle… “The Brazilian team has three problems when they play tomorrow’s game against Germany, Tiago Silva (Captain) is out with a second yellow card, Neymar is out of action, and Fred is fit to play.”

redFurther, briefly, to my comments yesterday about Krul, the Dutch goalie substituted at the last minute of extra time. “Tim Krul was playing mind games, walking up to the Costa Rica players, taking his time to get onto his line. “ – a sports commentator.

This is not gamesmanship, it’s evil and he should have been red-carded.

Just watching the news while eating my eggs, they were delicious. According to FIFA, Neymar has been the most persecuted player in this cup, suffering more fouls against him than any other player. He was hunted.

This post means that I have completed half my blogging today. I wonder what the rest of the day holds. But I’d wager that a nap and beer are involved.

Later.

Oh, just before I go… Clorinha having a Bedlam Moment during the football on Friday.

Gherkins, Gouda & Garlic

Comfort food.

gouda-cheese_19-131006

Gouda cheese

I had gherkins, Gouda, Gruyère and garlic pretzels during the Holland vs Costa Rica game, along with two litres of guava juice. Funny how life can be full of alliteration.

I happened to ponder, while eating the Gouda cheese, yes that’s the one with the holes. Does the air in the holes weigh something, are we paying for air content?

I’ve been slow with comments and visiting the blogs of commenters the last couple of days, but I have been out of sorts, a bit. The good news is, that my mail box is now empty, I have caught up.

<rant>

Krul, the arsehole

Krul, the arsehole

The Holland/Costa Rica game left a sour taste in my mouth. I really hope, now, that Holland get sent packing in the semis. The behaviour of the Dutch goalie Krul was reprehensible. He was put on just before the end of the extra time so that he faced the Costa Ricans, I am sure this was planned. He approached each of the Costa Rican shooters and threatened them, psyched them out and the BLOODY REF, once again, did NOTHING! He should be hung drawn and quartered.

I have never seen anything so deplorable on the football field, ever.

Another example of the abysmal standard of reffing in this World Cup. FIFA needs to be pulled up and taken to task over this bullshit.

</rant>

No football until Tuesday… oh woe is me. I’ll have to find something constructive to do. The dishes are done, the plants dewiltered, played with Clorinha in the praça… now what?

Let me check my SD card and see if there’s some inspiration…

M.I.A.

OMG! It’s 6pm!

I’ve done it before, and apparently, I’ve done it again.

Today started off okay twelve hours ago, that was when evrything went wrong.

Coffee was okay, even the second, then I discovered that I’d forgotten to leave the keys for work at work last night.

Never before was this so applicable

Never before was this so applicable

I began to fret, and after some work here (real work, not blogging) I had to take the keys back before someone (the bossette) discovered that I really was an idiot.

Now, I am ready to resume my responsibility and blog along. There is an internet connection problem and it’s as slow as a wet week  and comes and goes. At the moment, it’s gone again, making my endeavours very painful indeed.

Well, it’s now after 9:00 pm. It’s taken me three hours to get this far. It appears that the connection has settled down.

Okay, on with today’s woes.

Having taken the keys back to work, I was half way to the supermarket, so I walked the rest of the way.

Good move? No bad move. I had forgotten that today was Wednesday. Supermarkets have their meat specials on Wednesdays; oh poo! The place was packed with dedicated shoppers. Navigating was nigh on impossible, but I managed and eventually got to the checkout. All the checkouts had long lines. I got into one. Two laden trolleys in front; then when the next woman began putting her shopping on the checkout, she pulled two more laden trolleys that were on the side into line; she had three trolleys and she seemed to take a sadistic delight in being as slow as possible.

The next guy was mercifully quick, then my turn.

Finally I got home; three hours later.

End of the story… oh no.

They has just fired up the BBQ at the botequim.

When one is invited to participate, it’s rather churlish to refuse. I hurriedly put away my shopping, grabbed some smoked sausage and Coalho cheese kebabs to add to the offerings and went next door.

That’s where I spent the next three hours and three beers.

End of the story… oh no.

Had to have a nap, and that’s where I spent the next three hours.

A coffee, and that’s where I came in at the top of the post. I have been M.I.A. Not a blog post done for the day.

Talk about a day wasted. Mind you, I could have wasted it watching football, but there were no games today. Nor tomorrow, I wonder how I can waste the day tomorrow?

So it is with heavy heart that I will blog along.

Later.
