Tag Archive: gun control

It’s Thursday

Nothing much has happened since the last time nothing much has happened.

Which all makes for a very boring post.

My excitement for the day has included:

Put a battery in the clock

Watering the plants

Nap-fu practice

Got the trash ready

All enough to give you a heady rush.

I was going to cook lunch; I looked at the cauliflower, I looked fish, I looked at the potatoes… and that was as far as I got.

spring-around-the-corner1It’s so hot and stuffy. A sure indication that spring is just around the corner.

Actually, we should be having the spring rains. Which means hot days and a flash rain storm in the late afternoon. But we have been three weeks without a meaningful rain drop.

To make matters worse, we’ve only got a week of normal time left, then we do the clock shuffle for hora do verão (daylight savings, summer time, whatever). I hate that. I am a fan of do it and leave it, or just leave it. This annual ritual of taking the clock down off the wall reminds us that we need to dust more often. I just get my bearings fixed on the new time and it’s time to undo my bearings again.

The worst thing about today, is classes start at 4pm, which means I walk to work in the seering sun. It will be worse after we change the clocks, because I will be walking to work an hour after the hottest part of the day.

Last night was a blood moon. I saw it here, beautiful sight.

These can get you killed

These can get you killed

America is so screwed up. Another case of a black kid getting shot. Police say he was armed, bystanders say he was eating a sandwich and had no gun.

It’s pretty hard to imagine a dangerous sandwich… unless it comes from Subway. A gun was found at the scene; where did it come from? Are the police now providing their own evidence to justify killing a black kid?

It stinks.

This is the fourth such case in a month.

I agree with gun controls… Take them off the bloody police!

Ebola is on the advance, a new case of a British man dying in Macedonia. America starts watching for suspected Ebola patients at airports, and Britain is thinking about screening.

At risk of upsetting the French. They have uncovered 200,000 year old bones in Paris, by the river Seine. They are said to be Neanderthal bones… which explains a lot. The British have suspected for years that the French are Neanderthals.

The British police are miffed. There have been a number of cases where iPhones held in police custody for evidence have been remotely wiped of all data. And in another announcement, hard drives taken for evidence can be programmed to self-destruct if placed in an environment (like a radio wave secure bag) where it can’t reach the web.

It’s so nice to be assured that world is on course for auto-destruction.

Which all leaves me with less than an hour to become teacher-like.

Later.

Deleted – Defeated

I have been deleting video clips of my floor.

I tried, I truly did, to get a little film of Clorinha doing her mad dash through the room, under the chair, on to the box, on to the shelf, on to the other box, out of the window and on to the stove in the carport. But I failed. Each time I was left with the camera still pointing at an empty space on the floor and she was already outside.

Clorinha playing after her victory

I have been defeated by a small furry feline.

It’s the same when I try to get a video of Destructocat trying to demolish my passion fruit vines. I go to get the camera and when I get back she just sits there like a film star… looking pretty.

It’s Monday, my day has already been ruined.

I went to bed earlier than early last night. Early is between 9pm and 10pm; earlier than early, is before 9pm. I was woken twice by strange noises outside. Probably noises that I hear every night when the praça is alive and don’t even notice when I am awake, but they sound deadly when I am asleep. So I was up again just after 11, writing a post after having been inspiraficated in my sleep. Then I ran out of steam and went back to bed, hoping for more insprification. Instead, I went to sleep until the neighbour got his car out. Once he had gone, I died again. Now it is 10am and I am running late. I never did finish that post, I saved it and began my normal blogging routine. This is No. 3 this morning and all on one cup of coffee.

comments-iconA comment two posts back surprised me: “I try not to miss one episode of your TV drama life!”

To which I replied: “I have never considered my life as a TV drama, for me it’s far too mundane. But I thank you.”

Wow, my life is like a TV drama. I never thought of it that way before. I’ve always considered it just living, maybe a bit eclectically, maybe a touch of the exotic living here in Brazil, tinged with madness and the unexpected, along with a lot of coffee and weird tastes. I sit here each day surrounded by my wine and the conglomeration that I call home, posting and being attacked by a demented kitten, and somebody finds that exciting.

It’s nice to know that my efforts are not wasted.

I am a niche market.

I have an urge. I didn’t really have dinner last night. A fact that my stomach keeps reminding me of. I feel like hotdogs in a homemade tomato sauce on toast. By the time I finish this post, I’ll do it. Then, it’ll be lunch time and I can kill two birds with one stone.

The Pope has blamed the Syrian conflict on arms manufacturers. Indirectly, I guess he means the USA and Russia.

He also slid sneakily into the West Bank without going through Israel acknowledging that Palestine exists. I wonder if he can do the impossible and break the impasse between Palestine and Israel. While I am not a Catholic and think the Papacy should be dismantled, I like this Pope. He has done more for humanity than all previous popes put together.

American Congress is going to revisit gun control. Here we go again, barking up the wrong tree. Try looking at the root of the problem; mental health and the drugs pushed by BigPharma. Until you get to the root of the problem, you’ll have mass shootings like California this week.

I have run out of steam again.

Time for hotdogs.

So far, not even a ripple

With the end of the world supposedly approaching, you would have thought that there may have been some signs already.

I am curious as to whether it will be a slow rumbling sort of end, or a ‘rip-whoosh-bang’ ending. The latter would be so disappointing for one such as myself expecting a spectacle.

I got an email from a great friend yesterday. The tone of which was most unexpected given that this person is a scientist who has published many papers and speaks several languages fluently. He is also a pianist and has composed hence his reference to Beethoven’s 5th. Being such a serious type of person, it goes without saying that he is almost devoid of a sense of humour, not quite, but close. I sent him the YouTube link of my passion fruit flowers being inspected by an abelha negra (big black bumble bee) for pollinating (you can find the clip in this post). This was the reaction…

“I always wondered who uploads these shitty videos on youtube 🙂

Very beautiful humble bee, indeed, I kept watching the video for hours. I mean, four hours. Again and again, absolutely stunning images. They fit very well to Beethoven’s fifth symphony (beginning). They also combine well with rice, vinegar and dehydrated cucumbers. And to the number 777. And, of course, to my favourite colour: smelly.

I think I am wheeled. Or at least, completely tired. Wheel, tire, who cares. The Chinese would anyhow say that I am a “wheeldo”.”

I was stunned. Having known this person for more than ten years, I never suspected, nor expected that.

Moving right along…

I see that the latest tragedy in the USA has planted the idea of gun control in Obama’s tiny little brain.  The aim of the government has been for sometime to de-arm the populace so as to reduce resistance to the government in the event of the coming crisis. What better way to achieve one’s aims than riding on the crest of the public hysteria wave; make it seem as it is what they want.

Today, I am classless. I cunningly combined today’s classes with yesterdays. So very shortly it will be beer o’clock, but before that I thought it only right that I should write a post.

The days continue to be hot, although yesterday showed promise of rain, lots of thunder and lightning, a light sprinkle and that was it. They have been promising storms since the weekend, so much for the hit and miss technology of the meteorologist.

People ask me if I am animado (looking forward) to Christmas. I am about as animated as a dead fish. Christmas fails to stir an iota of interest other than it’s a good reason to drink beer. The hype and commercialisation has destroyed any pleasure. In effect it is a day when I can’t give class, therefore don’t get paid.

My coffee cup is empty. I should consider lunch before beer o’clock looms over the horizon. The clouds of a good storm are already looming… probably come to nothing.
