I Survived Humpday

hump-daymorpheusYes, yesterday was Humpday.

Boy that was some damned hump!

It’s downhill all the way to the weekend, which for me starts tomorrow as I have no classes, so my weekend is Friday until Tuesday. My Students leave tomorrow for the USA for a week of meetings.

Have you ever looked at the calendar? Have you ever noticed it goes Monday, Tuesday, then WTF!

I have the jitters. I am worried that my PC is going to implode again whenever I touch it. It’s just an awful nagging feeling that I have after the last two days.

Yesterday, I managed to wind up my old Linux drive. I had tried a few months back and it wouldn’t load but this time after some grunting and forced checking it loaded, so I saved all my data and I now have an empty drive with 500gb.

I am going to format it and reload XP. So the next time my PC goes PHUT, I can just switch drives and start all over again.

The hot is hotter than yesterday already. Judging by the heat outside I guess we’re in for a 45ºC day. Now people, that’s hot, it’s beerworthy. I am not looking forward to having to go to work this afternoon.

postitValentine’s Day is almost upon us.

Waste of time and money in my book, but for those of you guys who are lucky enough to score tomorrow, I urge you, don’t forget your Postit Notes.

They can save a lot of problems.

Damn! I’ve just blogged through the 1pm news again. I hate that. News is a bit like coffee, without the daily dose the day just doesn’t seem to gel.

While I didn’t have the net yesterday, I devoted my time to other pursuits, like CorelDraw and made some things for my other blogs. This is my favourite…

…and that is so true!

I have two bottles of beer in the fridge. One is Brahma Export, the other is Bohemia… I’m going to have a beer cocktail with lunch.

Perrier200mlGlDid you hear about the latest Irish cocktail?

  • One part Perrier
  • One part water
  • Garnished with ice…

Yeah, I know, it’s lame.

The rabbit died.

China’s Jade Rabbit died, but they have hopes of revival, after a weak signal was detected.

Quite frankly, I’m not surprised, if the quality of their battery rechargers is anything to go by. The last few years I have bought several, some never worked, some worked for the initial charge and never again. And you only have to look at the quality of their PC hard drives if you want further testimony, how many crashes have you had, how many bad blocks, how much lost personal data? And, they really expected to put something on the Moon that worked.

Must toddle off and think about lunch. Not much in the fridge, an egg, some Brie cheese, some pickled beetroot and some olives. I guess it’s a cheeseboard with and egg on the side, and a beer cocktail. You have to make do.

Later.

I Put my Pants On

I look nothing like this when I am blogging

I look nothing like this when I am blogging

Men get a bad rap. They are known to blog in the underpants.

I am here today to justify that bad rap. I blog in my underpants.

Probably a lot of women are equally guilty of blogging in their knickers, with or without bra.

I am at home alone, I roll out of bed in the morning, I am comfortable as I am; in my underpants. The only detracting side of this is when I splash hot water while making that all essential first morning coffee. Cloro doesn’t mind, although she sometimes looks at me as though to say “OMG, put some fur on!”

I have also been known to go out into the yard dressed like that. I can’t be seen from the road, unless you’re a pervert peeking through the crack in the gate; nor seen by the neighbours unless they are on their roof, read perverts again.

But this morning, I was out in the yard for some time, and I felt a little more secure in more than just my underpants. I had to water the plants, they were gasping in this heat. Yesterday was 37°C and the forecast today is for 40°C (106°F) with low humidity.

Last night I had some delicious sandwiches. I shaved some pork of the left over BBQ leg chop and put the shavings in some bread, a little pepper and salt… The rest is history.

Lunch today will be an exciting affair, leftover spaghetti bolognaise, somehow it always tastes better as a leftover.

A downer…

Sunday night, I resolved, after much procrastination (years of it) to complete a book that I am writing. I started the book in 2003, and have added to it little by little. The book is on advanced advanced English grammar *puts on Grammar Police Cap*, I have reached the 254 page mark, with about another 20+/- pages to be added.

Part of the procrastination was through losing the file on a shitty hard drive, then recovering it on another shitty hard drive, then recovering it again, on pendrive, and two more hard drives, to ensure that I don’t lose it again.

I decided to print off a hard copy of the book for proof reading. I can’t successfully proof read on the screen, I have to have the paper in front of me. Got to page 41, and and Wah! The black cartridge gave out. More procrastination while I get the cartridge refilled. Plans are to do that when I pay the rent tomorrow.

That’s it for today, other than to say, I want a Beamer like this one…

Synergistically Repurposed

cloudsWTF?

Basically it means ‘fired’ for the team’s benefit. That’s as near as I can figure it out.

No, I haven’t been fired. I just found this phrase when I was reading that HSBC hasn’t ‘fired’ 3,000 employees, they’ve been ‘demised’. The moment I saw it, I loved it and had to use it.

Dead-Hard-DriveLate start this morning. I was awake until well after the witching hour swapping and changing hard drives in an effort to squeeze some more juice out of them and save lost files. I did find some forgotten files, but not the ones I had hoped for.

Using software has now become not an option. The next step is surgery. I have one drive that just ‘clicks’ and isn’t recognised. I have great hopes of curing this clickiness.

I eventually surfaced about 10am and being Wednesday, my first post is Change the World Wednesday on Eco-Crap.

I got that far when I read the news as I intensified the morning with coffee and realised that it was actually no longer morning.

I have washed no dishes, I have prepared no lunch. I have fed Lixo, I’d never hear the end of it if I hadn’t.

I have stuff to do, can’t sit here all day, although I probably will. Such is the life of a blogger.

Later.
