Dethursdaying

thursday-8I am in the process of dethursdaying, that is finishing Thursday, or not having a Thursday, or, indeed getting over the effects of a Thursday.

I was up early to get posts organised, because late yesterday my lawyer rang and booked a 10am appointment. So I spent the rest of the day and partially sleepless night repeating “Oh shit” to myself wondering what had possibly gone wrong, could have possibly gone wrong.

All was over nothing, just to tell me that next Tuesday is the day of reckoning, so I have four days to rest and relax. He also wanted to give me the chance to make my next payment on the bill, which I have a sneaky idea was the real reason. Shifty buggers, lawyers.

However, it also gave me the chance to pay the rent. So apart from having four more days reprieve, I have a roof over my head for those four days… no food yet, but I have a roof.

Hot day, strong sun. My response to that was cold beer on arrival.

Home, answered emails, and Nap-fued, from which I have just deNap-fued and am having that quintessential coffee to wake up and spend the rest of the day looking for Friday.

Lunch, is left over pizza, so I won’t starve.

I may yet make a batch of onion rings to take to the botequim for nibbles, so I don’t feel beholden to share my half pizza; it’s such a little pizza.

Once I am at the botequim, I fear that is where I shall continue the process of dethursdaying surrounded by friends and empty bottles. Which is why you’re getting your post early today, because the chances of getting it later are remote.

Passion fruit flowers are out already, for the fifth day in a row. The smell in the front room is already heady. I am watching closely for the first sign of the first fruit.

Silly Box: A Chinese opened the door of a plane taxiing on the runway for take off; he wanted some fresh air. How silly is that?

I have surmised that there is only one way to rid American politics of Repugnicans and Democraps and that is to make American Idol, or the current inanity, a political party with the possibility of Kim Kardashian becoming president. That awful thought came to me as I was replying to a comment from yesterday. The only thing that could possibly be worse, is Miley Cyrus pole dancing her way into the White House.

With taht terrible thought, I shall moe along. Right next door… um, after i have put on my shorts.

Later.

But, I’ll leave you with a clip of the new Star Wars movie…

Busy Bee

Yes, the bees have been busy.

A big black bumblebee doing his thing. I finally managed to capture one on film.

I can’t say I did nothing today, because I did the dishes…

I spent the lunch hour at the botequim, actually, that was three hours, because the birthday boy neighbour was having a BBQ.

But apart from that I did nothing.

I read some disturbing news. Jeb Bush is considering the US presidency. Does the world really need another Bush in the White House? I know nothing about JB, but his Bush predecessors didn’t exactly enamour themselves to the American people or the world. The idea just sends shivers up my spine.

The Dali Lama has declared that he may well be the last. There was a successor chosen, but he was rejected by China saying they will choose the next. The whereabouts of the chosen one is unknown. I have a sneaking suspicion that China ‘disappeared’ him.

The Church of England is catching up with the rest of the world by appointing the first female bishop/ess… I wonder when the Catholic church will do the same. Oh, they don’t even have female clergy. That’s awkward.

When one thinks of those small countries around the Persian Gulf, one thinks of oil, sand, conflict, arrested bloggers, and tyrant dictators; one does not normally think about pets. Do desert countries have pets? Apparently they do, I visited an Oman blog yesterday looking for homes for stray cats. Adopt a pet in Oman, if you’re interested. It’s nice to know that there is some good news that comes out of the turmoil in that part of the world.

No Silly Box today, although the Bush story could qualify.

It’s pizza time!

Bower Fluds

Little bower fluds

Little bower fluds

You know what a Spoonerism is, right? Then I don’t need to explain the title. The rain has brought new growth, and my passion fruit vines are now sporting bower fluds…

These will grow into the garishly beautiful passion fruit flower. That will take about 6 days.

Why bower fluds? Well, when I am talking to myself, I often come out with Spoonerisms. They say talking to yourself is the first sign of madness; I disagree. Sometimes it’s the only way I can have a sensible conversation…. It’s when I answer myself that I start to worry just a little.

Still cool today, the sun did make a brave effort to shine earlier, but failed miserably as the sky clouded over again. I do hope we get more rain to reinforce the weekend.

My new passport is winging its way on the final leg. I am tracking it via the internet, it has left Madrid and I think the next stop is Rio; that flight I think is about eleven hours. I think it should be here about midnight for delivery tomorrow.

That is one chapter nearly finished. Now I have other hurdles to face. Let’s see what the future holds.

Cucumber, chopped parsley and lemon zest

Cucumber, chopped parsley and lemon zest

My sushi adventure on Saturday was wonderful. I do love making it, and feel it is quite an achievement to have discovered how. I had planned to take photos of the process, but ended up with just one; having made the green fillings.

By then I was in full flight and didn’t stop until the tray was at the bar. By tht time it was too late… gone.

One novelty that I hadn’t tried before was the inside-out makimonos. With the rice on the outside covered in black and white sesame seeds. It wasn’t as difficult as I had previously thought.

I do feel that I must tender my apologies for the two crappy posts over the weekend, but I was having so much fun out there in the 3D world, that my 2D adventures seemed to slide over to the backburner. One must make hay while the sun shines.

My clock has stopped again. I have been running on 3:30am since I woke this morning. These cheap wall clocks chew through the batteries faster than Brazilians in a bar chew through sushi. But not to worry, in a few hours it’ll be right again…

American police have shot and killed a twelve year old boy playing with a replica pistol. The kid was in a park brandishing the toy around, the despatcher didn’t pass on the fact that the person who reported it doubted it was a real gun, the kid didn’t obey the police to put his hands up. A witness has said that at no time did the kid threaten the police nor point the gun in their direction. So who was right and who was wrong? To me the parents are at fault for failing to educate their son.

So far this morning, I have successfully burnt the two slices of pizza that I had planned as a brunch snack, not totally beyond recognition, but I will have crunchy pizza. That was a direct result of spending more time in front of the keyboard than in the kitchen where I should have been. Oh the sacrifices I make to write a better post.

Time for crunchy pizza followed by some Nap-fu practice.

Mondays Suck

PolarBearMondayThey really do.

Nothing has gone right today.

I walked too far.

I spent too much money on taxis.

I didn’t have enough coffee.

It’s nearly 10pm and I still haven’t had lunch.

Skipping lunch, going for pizza.

I’ll be back tomorrow.

Sorry for the lousy post.

Muggy

GHWYes, it’s muggy. Not hot, but very humid. I am sitting here in my underpants….

Oh shit, you didn’t read the warning, did you!

…sweating at 8am.

And the day promises to get hotter.

Last night, I had pizza for supper. I had planned a full meal, but after late class and a later beer, I decided that pizza was less time and effort.

breakfastSo, breakfast this morning, I took the advice of Foul Bachelor Frog (see Tuesday’s posts on Nether Region of the Earth III) and had a ready prepared snack in the fridge.

Although, I did make it more breakfasty by spreading cream cheese on it.

Quite yummy.

In my younger days we didn’t have pizza like today. There were no Pizza Huts or pizzas in the supermarkets, so we didn’t have the same advantages of today’s youths where cold pizza competes with cornflakes as a breakfast food I can, however, recommend it.

The carefree life of a bachelor. Nobody watching over your shoulder muttering “That’s disgusting!”

Remember those pork steaks from yesterday, they didn’t get schnitzeled. I have that ready for today. The kids didn’t arrive for their class yesterday, I tried ringing the ex, but kept being diverted to the message box; I guess she’s out of credits again and has the cellphone off.

I’m still waiting for the techy-type to change my standby monitor for a standby standby monitor and take my second LCD away to see if that can be repaired. The original LCD monitor seems to have a protection problem that is causing him some grief. Probably more to do with planned obsolescence. The second LCD I think is a power (on/off switch) problem which may/may not be easier to tackle, and therefore speedier. He’s behaving like a Brazilian… Oh, wait, he is Brazilian.

Headline news, some idiot tried to swim to North Korea… How obtuse can you be? North Koreans are trying to escape the clutches of the mental little brat that runs the place, and he tries to go there….

Yes/No The noes have it. Scotland stays in the United Kingdom. Apparently they will still be allowed to toss cabers.

It must be sad living in a country with no sense of humour – “Six Iranians arrested for appearing in a video dancing to Pharrell Williams’ song Happy have been sentenced to up to one year in prison and 91 lashes, their lawyer says”. – BBCNews.

Yesterday, I mentioned the IS threat of beheading a random Australian. Well, today they have increased security at parliament, Tony Abbott doesn’t want to considered ‘random’. He’s already considered an idiot, adding random to that would just be overboard.

Sushi ko- whale meat

Sushi ko – whale meat

More sushi than science: Japan is flying in the face of the IWC ruling banning it’s scientific sushi whaling expeditions.

Apparently you can also get whale’s balls…

Actually they are korokke made with whale meat as a form of croquette.

There is actually some doubt as to whether the whales ever get scrutinised by scientists and the whole thing is commercial whaling in disguise.

Check out this chart, I believe it is classed as scientific research.

It is about here that I run out of steam and inspiration.

Puxa!

Sperm Bank

Sperm Bank

Puxa, in Portuguese means ‘pull’. Pronounced, pusha.

Terribly confusing for foreigners, while empurre (empoorhy) means ‘push’. Puxa is also used as a polite expression of surprise; whereas those of us of a masculine persuasion, would normally say PORRA! Which is a palavrão (swear word) and actually means ‘sperm’, but used like an English speaking male would use ‘fuck!’

Anyway, moving right along!

My first waking thought a 6:10pm, was Puxa!

One, it was dark; two, it was cold, bitterly cold and I was just in my underwear.

So what happened?

It all started as a pretty normal Saturday. I coffeed, I blogged, I coffeed again, repeat. All the while I was thinking “food’ must get food.” The driving force for this thought was twofold, one, the fridge was empty; and two, I was hungry.

Essentials

Essentials

So about 11am I decided to go hunting, rather somewhat like my hunter-gatherer forebears; I went to the supermarket. Finally.

There I hunted for things to go into my trolley (shopping cart for our American cousins), and gathered them.

I planned to buy only essentials like wine, beer and some food.

Things began to fall into my trolley, a bottle of sake, three bottles of Seleção Brasileira (National football team) beer which I saw for the first time, things that would be considered impulse buying. My Nap-fu skills are only exceeded by my impulse buying skills.

Okay, so going to the supermarket wasn’t the worst part of the day, except at the cashier.

Taxi home.

Oh look! They’re having a BBQ at the botequim! That’s about where things went awry.

I put the shopping away in record time, and headed to the bar. I ate, I drank, I was merry. Then I got conned into tending the BBQ, that often happens as my BBQing skills are also well honed. At 4pm, I left a lonely sausage shrivelling on the near dead coals and headed home to test my Nap-fu skills.

Waking to the thought, “Puxa!

I set about defrosting myself. I made fresh coffee, put on my woolly pants and slowly stopped shivering.

This post was written as I thawed.

So Saturday, came and went before I had a chance to blink.

Despite having food in the fridge, I don’t feel like cooking. So the new pizza shop in the neighbourhood is getting a tryout… again. Now, I am waiting for pizza delivery.

Three o’bloodyclock

monday-memes-mercury1That’s the time my day started!

Couldn’t sleep because of the cold, it shrunk my bladder.

Finally denapped about seven, to find not one, but two cats asleep within striking distance on the sofa. Yes, it looks like Clorinha and Kitty have made an uneasy truce. Oh, I must explain, Kitty when said in Portuguese, is pronounced Kitchy, just so you don’t get it wrong. She had a leisurely breakfast until Clorinha batted at her with a “‘it’s-my-turn” paw.

I made coffee, and settled in front of the ‘puter. I had already achieved most of my posting at three o’bloodyclock.

This morning I have to get money from the money machine, pay my rent, buy a new mouse and get some Enos. Now, isn’t that exciting?

It’s Monday, what can go wrong?

The possibilities are infinite.

At least there won’t be any students ringing me to cancel classes… I don’t have students on a Monday.

I am not suffering today, I had two leftover pizza halves with beer last night. Ah, that was after the bottle of Bordeaux with lunch.

So far, I have had an exciting morning. I got a new bottle of gas. It’s the simple things in life that make it worthwhile.

I see in the news that people are complaining about people having BBQs in public places… wankers. Take a leaf out of the Brazilian handbook; where you complain, but you complain about not being invited. We have BBQs in the praça all the time; there were two yesterday.

I am between two thoughts, have a nap, or go to town…

The bed is closer.

I have weinered the schnitzel

Bordeaux for lunch

Bordeaux for lunch

Yes, today, weinerschnitzel; all crumbed and ready to go. Boiled potatoes and buttered peas and cauliflower cheese on the side. French Bordeaux in the fridge… Oh, I know how to do it on a Sunday.

Another sunny day, not brightly so, but there is sun. The night was bitterly cold and I woke several times, I really need my Nap-fu skills today.

I also really need more coffee… BRB

I have picked the chili peppers from the bush by the kitchen door, enough for a jar full. Later I will wash them and when dry bottle them with olive oil.

1,000 posts

A nice surprise.

My blog Nether Region of the Earth III has reached  1,000 posts. NROTE is my daily general humour blog. Hop across and have a Sunday giggle; and don’t forget the ‘Like’ button, it helps the algorithms spread the word or something.

The new pizza place opened last night. I had their first pizza for dinner last night.

Now I have two leftover half pizzas in the fridge. Guess what’s for dinner tonight?

You all know my penchant for wine, I have found the perfect wine glass…

There, isn’t that a beauty?

I have found a way out of the labyrinth…

Post Mortems

NeymarPleads

Poor Neymar Jr

The month of folly and madness is behind us. The world can return to normal. There remains just the post mortems.

Sadly Brazil blew it, or had it blown for them.

I am not going to dwell further, but I will point you to two excellent blog posts.

First: Your cut out and keep guide to the World Cup Final by Andrew, a wonderful example of speaking Andrewese.

Second: Culture Shock by an American ex-pat married to a German.

Both are well  worth reading. Don’t drink your coffee while doing so.

Yesterday I watched the final, somewhat nonplussed, I was rooting for Argentina, but my fellow fregües (regulars) at the botequim told me my reasoning was misplaced.

However, grudges were not born, as I supplied two homemade pizzas, one before th game and the other at half time. The first a three-cheese-three-meats, and the second asparagus bruschetta and shiitake, all was forgiven and my beer paid for. *Grinning* I’m old, not stupid.

pizza-express

Pizza Expless

Speaking of pizzas, Pizza Express has been sold to the Chinese. Nothing is sacred any more.

Watch out for chow mein and noodle pizzas.

It would be akin to selling Mercedes Benz to Korea; or do they already own it?

The world is full of injustices.

BTW, the bruschetta was horrible as a topping, that’s why I sacrificed it as a pizza base sauce, then it was acceptable. The asparagus content was the hard stringy offcuts from asparagus used for better ends.

bartvoices-2I have staff. I never realised it. Reading MWPG’s blog this morning, she blamed the voices in her head for something calling them her staff. Yes, I have staff… voices in my head. They are the ones that forget good ideas and posting material.

Do you have voices?

Sometimes, they’re wonderful company; better company that some of the people I know, but other times they can be a hinderance.

Do I need therapy?

I know that I need a nap, it’s already after lunch, which I haven’t had yet and am not bothered with. I woke up late this morning. I was up between 3 & 5, then back to bed, slept in until 9:30 and woke to a lovely sunny morning after another ‘blanket’ night.

The plants have been watered, the dishes sneered at (very few actually) and the fresh coffee is all gone (that’s 1½ pints), is it any wonder I am so beautiful? <—– rhetorical question, doesn’t warrant a reply.

So, napping right along.

Datsun Cogs

You won't find Datsun Cogs in here, well, there may be a few

You won’t find Datsun Cogs in here, well, there may be a few

Yes, we have been promised Datsun Cogs for the weekend, more likely Sunday than Saturday, although the sky is grey this morning with the sun bravely trying.

Datsun Cogs is a phrase that we used years ago with the onslaught of Japanese cars on the market. I hadn’t heard it in yonks (long unspecified time frame) until I saw it on Shana’s Datsun Cogs post and just had to use it, mainly for nostalgia.

My cramps have gone, my bowels have stopped moving. Well, they do when I go and get more coffee from the kitchen, they go with me, but in the traditional sense they have stabilised. So much so, that after class last night I went out for pizza and beer; without being a glutton about it, so far, so good. I have not felt the need to reenact Napoleon Blownaparte’s demise.

Fuzzy green tomatoes

Fuzzy green tomatoes

Tomatoes have breached the R$9kg price again. Takes them off the menu. But I have heart, the first small green blobs are developing on my more mature tomato plant.

I hope they aren’t as fuzzy when they are ripe.

The photographic blur is a direct result of not enough coffee.

I made another ‘find’ in the trash a couple of days ago. All the dark stained wooden pieces for a sizable table. It lacks the glass piece for the centre. Once I buy the screws necessary for reassembly I will visit an acquaintance who has a vidraçaria (glass & mirror) shop. It’s 140x90cm but not as high as a normal dining table 75cm. All I need to do now is decide where and how to put it and use it; a minor detail.

The sun is out. The neighbour’s cat has been in and eaten Clorinha’s biccies. Need more coffee.

So far my daily highlight has been discovering that one lemon had turned half brown and one potato has become ‘juicy’; both are now residing on the compost heap. I hate wasting food, but these were bought before I had the dreaded lurgy and stopped eating.

The upshot of having two dodgy bellies within three weeks is that I am back into my size 50 jeans, whereas I was using 54s. Makes a larger person almost hope for another dodgy belly; I am putting my 48s in the wash, just in case.

The dishes remain… well, they remain. I should go to the supermarket, as the polar bears in the fridge are complaining of starvation; I will be too, if I don’t.

The sun is in again.

I wrote a lovely comment on a blog post last night. Then I used it as a prelude to a reblog of that post on my blog Things that Fizz & Stuff. You may find it interesting as it is in part about my younger years and almost deserves a place here.

The sun is out again.

I suspect our celestial body is having a ‘bad hair day’.

It’s too early to practise my Nap-fu skills, so I will blog along.

Later.
