Gherkins, Gouda & Garlic

Comfort food.

Gouda cheese

I had gherkins, Gouda, Gruyère and garlic pretzels during the Holland vs Costa Rica game, along with two litres of guava juice. Funny how life can be full of alliteration.

I happened to ponder, while eating the Gouda cheese, yes that’s the one with the holes. Does the air in the holes weigh something, are we paying for air content?

I’ve been slow with comments and visiting the blogs of commenters the last couple of days, but I have been out of sorts, a bit. The good news is, that my mail box is now empty, I have caught up.

Krul, the arsehole

Krul, the arsehole

The Holland/Costa Rica game left a sour taste in my mouth. I really hope, now, that Holland get sent packing in the semis. The behaviour of the Dutch goalie Krul was reprehensible. He was put on just before the end of the extra time so that he faced the Costa Ricans, I am sure this was planned. He approached each of the Costa Rican shooters and threatened them, psyched them out and the BLOODY REF, once again, did NOTHING! He should be hung drawn and quartered.

I have never seen anything so deplorable on the football field, ever.

Another example of the abysmal standard of reffing in this World Cup. FIFA needs to be pulled up and taken to task over this bullshit.

No football until Tuesday… oh woe is me. I’ll have to find something constructive to do. The dishes are done, the plants dewiltered, played with Clorinha in the praça… now what?

Let me check my SD card and see if there’s some inspiration…

Freeday

Yes, today is free!

So far, it hasn’t cost a penny.

I have finally found the perfect ‘Enter’ key for my keyboard…

As soon as I find out where they sell these, I’ll let you know. This was posted on Wine Wankers today, hop across for more laffs.

The post made me chortle into my coffee.

Another Friday in which I woke confused, was it indeed Friday, or was my mind playing tricks again?

My comment about Linux elicited a comment. After I had replied to same, I realised it was a worthy rant…

2010_onethemea little more than a year ago, I experimented with Mandriva Linux, I even bought a new pc with it installed.

Basically, I liked it as a user, but it’s too piecemeal. In nine months, I never successfully installed a programme. Remember, I tried this as a serious attempt to get away from the ubiquitous Microsoft.

While, I can find my way around many things with a pc and do many things, I am not geek enough to cope with Linux. It needs a central core, it needs to be organised, so that real people can use it, it needs to be simplified and taken out of the realm of the geek.

It is this lack of cohesion that has made Microsoft so bloody powerful and god-like.

Sunny day out there. I have yet to participate. I may, I may not. In all probability, a nap will take precedence.

The result of making spring rolls yesterday

The result of making spring rolls yesterday

My kitchen looks like a disaster area.

I could put my big-boy pants on and deal with it, but I don’t want to get my hands wet.

I will probably face the kitchen sink when it becomes obvious that I need to eat.

But that won’t happen before a nap. One must retain one’s priorities.

I should also remove the beer bottles from the living room, unsightly. I had some beer during Wednesday’s football match on the telly. I am a messy boy this week.

Lunch today will be mincemeat-something. I haven’t decided on mincemeat-what yet.

Now about that nap…

Later.

The Smell of Heaven

a-funny-coffee-quotesYes, I had coffee ready made this morning.

No, waiting that extra eight minutes.

Yesterday it cooled in the late afternoon, and even s few spits of rain that amounted to nothing. That was repeated at 11pm, big heavy rain drops, but again amounted to nothing.

I’ve lost track, but we are well into our third week of high temps, and even the Brazilians are complaining about it.

I feel I must clarify a comment that I made yesterday… When I said “I wish I could do that” I wasn’t referring to Cloro’s nuts as Andrew misconstrued cleverly. I did add a little story about a similar situation to my reply.

The lack of ruffling fur, I have put down to it disappearing when I opted for the clip to be ‘tweaked’ by YouTube to remove shakiness.

I have been watching this new pope person carefully. Generally, he’s been doing okay and I have enjoyed his refreshing attitude to many of the antiquated Catholic policies.

But yesterday, he fucked up, totally fucked up.

He spoke about the evils of abortion. Now I’m not in favour of willy-nilly abortion, or abortion as a post-coitus contraception, but I am fully in favour of abortion as a life saving or social measure.

This pope person lambasted all abortion as evil, he totally missed the boat; where he could have pronounced a more moderate approach by the church by, for example, urging the decriminalisation of abortion. I’m not talking about the decriminalisation of backyard-abortionists, rather I’m talking about the women around the world in Catholic countries who are in prison for abortion. The granting of an amnesty for these women. Suggesting to countries like El Salvador (which has the strictest abortion laws in the world) to ease the laws and stop making women criminals. Easing up on situations like the Indian doctor who died in Ireland last year because doctors wouldn’t perform the abortion that would have saved her life.

He talks about the poor, easing up on abortion would go a long way to helping the poor, but then the church needs the poor, denying abortion creates more Catholics. If it wasn’t for the poor there would be NO Catholic church.

Yes, in my opinion, he fucked up and missed the boat.

I don’t apologise about the rant, but somethings really irk me.

50follsSAACI got a nice surprise the other day, my blog Some Animals are Crackers achieved this…

SAAC is my newest blog, and the stats are very modest, so it was gratifying to see that 50+ people are following. If you like animals, hope over and have a look, it’s not just ‘cats and dogs’.

Well, my afternoon student has cancelled; it’s too hot to go and pay the bills, so I am going to do the only sensible thing… submit myself to the rigours of beer o’clock.

Later.
