I am so cool

Not cool... just another little wanker

Not cool… just another little wanker

No, NOT Joe Cool, or Bieber cool.

The weather is cool, and therefore I am too. I’m not complaining, it’s pleasant after our recent hot spell.

I read of an ingenious way of getting around the problem of no net on An Englishman in Italy. I love his blog. After his post, I commented: “I have a similar problem at work. No, it doesn’t involve a yacht’s mast, yet. I was able to get a connection when the other firm occupied the room next to my classroom. But they moved across the road. It was fine when they had the router near the front window, but they moved it to the back room; now with an extra wall between us sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. Maybe I should look for a mast…”

If you want to understand the yacht mast you’ll have to read his side of the story.

It was so handy having the net in class. I used to d/load music and song lyrics and also to demonstrate things relating to English culture. I must try and convince my bossette that the net is a good teaching aid, but she is very old fashioned and bleats about the cost of everything. Last week I asked for fly spray to combat mosquitoes that were annoying students; you’d have thought I had asked her to put a down payment on the crown jewels instead of an R$8 can of spray. Then I got a lecture about how to use it frugally.

Apparently people do cook lipstick

Apparently people do cook lipstick

Did you know that the average woman consumes 6lbs of lipstick in a lifetime… Quite frankly, I am amazed, I have never thought of eating lipstick, I wonder how they cook it, or is it eaten raw?

On a different eating theme. I love avocado milkshakes. Half an avocado, lots of ice and milk. into the blender.

Drink it until the pain hits, right at the base of the skull. Brain Freeze! Oh why do I do it.

Last week I made them for my kids when they visited.

Emmylee’s immediate response, “I’m not drinking that, it’s Shrek poo!” Sigh, that’s an eight year old for you.

I showed her the avocado skins and finally convinced her to try it. She liked it. Now they’re called Shrek poo!

Ebola. They’ve been telling us lies… again. In 1990 Ebola was recognised as being airborne.

The British pound is falling, it has upset money markets. Now tell me again where is this economic recovery they keep talking about.

Hong Kong situation explained in intelligable language by Andrew in a great post. Thanks Andrew, that was well done.

Must be time for Nap-fu practice.

Later.

The Art of Doing Nothing

busy-doing-nothingIt’s Sunday.

I’m busy.

I’ve blogged my little cotton socks off already. The damned laundry lady arrived early; 6:40am, I hadn’t even coffeed.

In the words of Queen Elizabeth II… “We are not amused!”

However, one must continue in the face of adversity. I have now coffeed… four times and feel somewhat ready to face the day.

The laundry lady has gone. *Breathes huge sigh of relief*

Dilemma, doing nothing is so tiring, because you can’t stop to rest.

They say that it is impossible to ‘do’ nothing.

nothingimpossibleNot true, even if you are watching the veges grow, or paint dry…

IMG_1295The next thing on my agenda today is Nap-fu practice.

karmaI will consider which Karma to enjoy with lunch.

As I am thinking of sushi, there’s a good chance it will be sake. Because I have to open a bottle to mix a little with the rice.

Last night I made some gari (pickled ginger). It’s in the fridge pickling.

I was interested in the current economic recovery bullshit. An article yesterday made the observation that the current slump is the worst since 1860. So where does that leave the ‘recovery’? Any suggestion that the economic situation is recovering is a myth.

Hong Kong’s leader CY Leung is a cowardly wanker feathering his own nest with China’s communist regime because he’s too scared to think for himself. Bloody wimp!

Why does China continue with this ideology? It is well proven and documented that communism doesn’t work. Why did Russia chuck it out? This is where Putin is a political Neanderthal, he dreams of a renewed communist Russia. He’s another wanker.

Ever noticed that in general, the world is governed by wankers?

Ebola, the first tests on the Guinean proved negative, second test today to confirm that result. Okay, that’s a sigh of relief. But lat night a politician announced that the chances of Ebola reaching Brazil is negligible; I call bullshit on that. A second case in America, one of the health workers caring for the Texas guy who died, has now tested positive. The snowball has started rolling.

I mentioned the other day about gun control… Check the video that I posted on Tomus Arcanum today. It’s got a lot of ‘fowl’ language, so if naughty words curl your hair, don’t click on the link. But I think it’s hilarious and says a lot about attitudes.

Yesterday reached 39ºC, that’s about 100ºF+. My plants didn’t wilt, because I watered them and sacrificed my cooked breakfast which I had at 4pm with beer at the botequim. That’s what I love about my life, flexibilty, nothing is rigid, plans can be changed.

Last night at 10pm I felt peckish (NO! I’m not pregnant), so I got a pastel (a fried filled pastry); calabresa (smoked sausage) & onion… I farted all night. It was enough to keep anyone awake.

I think the plants deserve another drink before Nap-fu, although I don’t think the day will be as hot as yesterday; I’m not taking chances.

Later.

UPDATE!

Remember what I said about flexibility?

Well, while I was watering the plants outside my gate the botequim was setting up the BBQ… well, there’s only one thing to do. Put the Nap-fu on hold and have BBQ for breakfast… 🙂

Life is wonderful.

Anything

anythingpossiblecoffeeIt’s true. Given enough coffee I can jump through hoops and perform miracles. I can even get through my day’s blogging relatively unscathed.

Today I was determined that I would not have to put up another ‘apology’ post.

My first post this morning was Change the World Wednesday, on Wednesdays that is always a priority.

So this was me at the keyboard at 6am…

beforecoffee

Not a pretty sight.

So here I am. Now what had I planned for yesterday?

The Pope… Now I am not a religious person, much less a Catholic, but this Pope Francis has almost impressed me; especially as the last one with the poncy red shoes had me calling for the Papacy to be abolished. As an Eggs Benedict, he’s had his day, been a cardinal, he’s got the T-shirt, he should be lining up for the dole like any other unemployed pope. There’s not much call for unemployed popes, you know. Imagine his curriculum vitae… Last post: Pope. Reason for Leaving Employment: Got tired…

Back to this Francis person. He’s calling for a change in the paradigm; that’s a bit like pushing shit uphill with a garden fork. Made doubly difficult because he’s calling for a change in the way the world thinks about money. Laudible, but I would imagine that he’d have more luck finding rockinghorse poo. Then he did have luck with that pigeon trick, though, pretty impressive. Then last night on TV I saw a report that disturbed me, was it an exorcism? Many have said yes, just as many have called the idea hogwash. But it was televised, there was no denying that something was going on there.

All those balloons and no air traffic control

All those balloons and no air traffic control

Now that my favourite novela (soap opera) Salve Jorge has finished every Brazilian knows about Cappadocia in Turkey, as a fair bit of the action took place there; and the pretty coloured balloons that give tourists flights over the rocky terrain featured as a filler between many scenes. Two days ago one fell out of the sky killing three Brazilian tourists and putting another seven in hospital.

Google is still stupid. Tells me that Cappadocia is wrong, that it should be cappuccino.

The Brazilian economy is doing great. Well, it would be if you believed Guido Mantega (Brazilian version of American Federal Reserve’s Bernard Bernake). They’re both full of shit. Recovery shit.

Four years ago, when I moved into this neighbourhood, I would buy my nightly beer and ciggies with one of these…

Old design R$10

Old design R$10

…and got R$2 in change.

Now for the same, I hand over one of these…

New design R$20

New design R$20

,,, and get R$4 in change. Now to me that’s 100%, which means that inflation is NOT under control. And the presidenta says Brazil is not being affected by the international financial crisis.

I call bullshit. There is NO recovery.

Time to rattle my dags again, need to fill that beer money jar of yesterday’s post.

Later.
