Should kittens be allowed cellphones

Should kittens be allowed cellphones

At the moment, the post title is blank. I had a title, in fact I had two possibilities, but a blanket of forget has descended.

I mentioned a couple of posts back, about the possibility of Clorinha wanting her own cellphone. We had a good talk about this, there was a lot of mewing and decided that she would only want to play Angry Birds or have that Flappy Bird app, so therefore a cellphone wasn’t really a necessity, but still she insisted. So I played my trump card, “look to use a cellphone you need opposing thumbs.” Evolution, please don’t hurry in this respect, kittens do not need opposing thumbs.

Okay, the post has a title now. The mental fog has lifted, at least partially. I still can’t think of the other option I was toying with.

The kitty toys strewn about the house have developed into flora and fauna. There are now two dead leaves and some pigeon feathers. The house next door has an open loft/floor and it harbours sodding pigeons, whose feathers tend to float down into my carport.

Wasabi, most people know it as hot green stuff

Wasabi, most people know it as bloody hot green stuff

I went out for sushi last night. Rash, I know, but wonderful. I haven’t had real sushi for more than two months. I am on good terms with the manager there, and I used this to advantage. The last few times I have had to asked for wasabi (that hot green horse radish paste) and gari (that’s the sliced pickled ginger). He explained that many people don’t use them, so they made it available on request.

I asked him if he knew why gari is served with sushi. He had no idea; the manager of an upmarket and, I might add, quite expensive Japanese style restaurant had no idea.

Gari made from young ginger root

Gari made from young ginger root

Do you?

Gari, the ginger, is used to refresh the mouth when changing food or fish types, so that you get the benefit of the new flavours.

It also has other functions; its antiseptic properties help guard against bad fish and can help ease your stomach from the nausea of over stuffing yourself.

Gari is usually made from young ginger, you can tell if it is pinkish. A tan/yellowy colour indicates older root. Many commercial products are older root artificially coloured pink. You don’t need that stuff, just grate ginger root and pickle with sugar and vinegar, easy.

There, that’s your cooking lesson for the day.

I see we have two new saints. The pope canonised to past popes. Honestly, do we need more saints? Too much of a good thing makes it very ordinary.

The sun has just gone out and I have wet washing on the line. Rain was forecast for today and tomorrow, looks like the weather forecasters have finally got their shit together.

Clorinha has found her father’s favourite place. The old drawer on top of the old fridge in the carport, she’s out there now asleep.

At night she prefers the back of the sofa

At night she prefers the back of the sofa

She’s a TV cat. None of my other cats have shown any interest in the TV, but Clorinha sits on the arm of the sofa and follows every move on the screen especially during a football (soccer) match with the players moving fast.

A final feline note. She met her first rat yesterday while we were at the botequim. She was exploring the long grass beside the smelly canal, and I saw her jump backward with all four paws off the ground. On inspection, it was a dirty brown rat bigger her. She looked up at me with a dazed “WTF was that?” expression.

Sun’s come out again…

Must be beer o’clock.

I Procrastined my Ated

nutsYes, I kept putting off posting until it was no longer a viable option yesterday.

Today, it appeared to happen again, I kept procrastinating, naps, lunch and beer o’clock took precedence.

Then, my evening students cancelled, which is why I managed to fit in a beer o’clock. I don’t normally drink before class, it’s not unheard of on a sweltering Rio day, but I don’t make a habit of it.

Yesterday, nothing happened. I blogged, but those of you who follow my various blogs already knew that, so why post and tell you?

The most exciting things I have done today, apart from my nap (naps are always exciting, you never know what you’ll dream about), ws to pay my bills and water the plants. The latter exercise was totally futile as it is now beginning to rain.

I see the Catholic church is about to get two more saints, personally I don’t see the point. Haven’t they got enough? There’s already 140 or so. What is the point of saints? It’s all a load of bollocks if you ask me. The saints are dead already, so isn’t communicating (praying) with the dead condemned by the church?

Football (soccer) referees in Brazil will be a lot more wary about red carding players after a game in Maranhão (north Brazil). The ref red carded a player, who then refused to leave the field, so the ref stabbed him and he died on the way to hospital. That wasn’t the end of the story, the spectators invaded the field and decapitated the ref. Why was the ref carrying a knife in the first place? Yes, we have to deal with some nuts.

Obama-In-a-Pickle1Obama is in a real pickle.

First, the news that NSA were spying on Americans, then came the news that they were doing the same to Germans, it turned out that much of Europe was also being spied on. Over the weekend the story broke that they were spying on Brazilians.

The Brazilians are not happy. Dilma (president) has got her knickers thoroughly twisted and the ramifications will be serious. The Americans cannot placate Brazil as they have whitewashed the Europeans, particularly because the Brazilian Constitution makes spying on citizens a crime. Company’s like FaceBook, Google, etc who have collaborated with the Americans could find themselves in prison, and the companies expelled from the country. Expulsions could also  happen at ambassadorial levels, just as Morales is considering in Bolivia after his affair last week.

Basically, the shit has hit the fan, and this time it is big time.

My blog ratings continue to plummet. My Nether Region blog which, prior to 26th Feb, was getting 200+ hits daily (highest daily 1,652), yesterday managed 3, the day before 4, and today an astounding 7 (aken from my Sats Counter, my WP stats are a little better). Something very fishy here, I have no doubt this is orchestrated because of my political views.

Watch this space.

Mission Accomplished

Yes, that’s what I’m doing today…

Being another four days between posts, it would appear that I don’t do shit any day.

Last post Monday; and today’s Friday, what happened to the rest of the week?

I have been busy, been posting daily on most blogs, just not here. Change the World Wednesday started again this week and I wrote a  pretty good post on Eco-Crap for the first one of the year. Basically, that everyone’s not doing shit.

Statue in Praça do Russel, Gloria, RJ

Today is Dia de São Sebastião (St Sebastian’s Day). For us in Rio de Janeiro it’s a public holiday, because he is the State’s saint. That’s another reason not to do shit, it’s a public holiday.

Last St Sebastian’s Day I admitted that I didn’t really know who St Sebastian was.

BRB

Well, there ya go… He was a Christian saint and a martyr. Apparently he died twice, that’s worthy of sainthood if nothing else is.

The first time, as most depictions show, he was tied to a post and shot with arrows. I guess he got the point. But he was rescued by Irene of Rome and healed. Not having learned his lesson the fist time, once he was healed he harangued the emperor as he passed the house and this time he was beaten to death. It seems that Irene of Rome had a previous engagement and was not there for a second resurrection, but she was martyred herself some time later.

Aren’t Google and Wikipedia just wonderful? Bugger these SOPA and PIPA thingies, they’d take all the fun out of the net. I hope you all signed the petitions.

So I refrain from making the same gaffe today as I did last year.

Red Spotted Newt

A Newt is a slimy amphibian with toxins, pretty much the same as a politician of the same name.

The Red-Spotted Newt is actually quite a handsome beast, which cannot be said of the Flabby-Jowled Newt that is found drooling around caucuses and primaries; that Newt will neither be sainted nor martyred… pilloried maybe.

Doesn’t he get his nuts in a twist when he doesn’t get his own way; very puerile. Maybe he should talk to his tailor about his dressing, then his nuts mightn’t be so twisted.

Moving right along as this is not a political blog, I will not wax politic. But I thought that worth mentioning as I had tweeted about it yesterday because I thought it a rather funny comparison, albeit true.

I had a leisurely breakfast of bacon, eggs and stewed tomatoes on toast this morning at 2pm.

Yes, that confirms holidays are wonderful, breakfast at two in the afternoon.

*Looking at digital clock*

I see that it is beer o’clock again. One mustn’t be tardy.

So, I will off and pay my dues.

Later.
