It’s the Coffee that does it

Devilsh good looks

Devilish good looks

I have always been convinced that it is the coffee that is responsible for my devilish good looks.

Why?

Because I drink so much, and I am so devilishly handsome.

Coffee is not a drug as claimed by some, it is a cup of liquid sanity.

I am stress free, I don’t panic easily; except perhaps when the bule (coffeepot) is empty, then I’m likely to fly off the proverbial handle and run around the kitchen in a blind dither.

Yesterday was a lovely sunny day until late in the afternoon, then it clouded over. Today is promising to be the same after a freezing bitch of a night; the temp dropped to 12ºC. Remember we think 20 is cold, imagine how we felt at 12….

The Argentine flagArgentina is bankrupt, again.  They’re squealing that it’s not bankruptcy, because they have the money but the US court won’t let them pay it, unless they pay everybody. The trouble is that the majority of bondholders have accepted a lesser value for their bonds with a few hold outs that want what is due. Krissy Kirchner calls these companies vultures; and won’t pay them for fear that the majority will then claim the full amount too. That would really bankrupt the country.

I’m posting a leaf, not for your benefit, it’s for MWPG to identify.

We think it's a beefsteak tree...

We think it’s a beefsteak tree…

But she wanted a better photo of the leaf to confirm, hope this one is okay.

I am having mouse problems.

No, not Clorinha’s fault this time. To solve this mouse problem she would need opposable thumbs.

I bought two mice. (Musing… If the plural of mouse is mice, why isn’t the plural of house, hice?) These are Chinese mice.

Chinese Leadership, doesn't work

Chinese Leadership, doesn’t work. Ain’t that the truth?

When I got home I connected one.

Fine worked… for the first four days; then began to have clickability problems.

Finally, I changed it this morning. The next one didn’t have clickability problems. It didn’t even freakin’ well click, period; in fact it didn’t even register on the PC.

Change back to the one with clickability problems.

This was all pre-Coffee, the water was still boiling and I was running around the kitchen in a blind dither.

Why do the Chinese produce so much crap?

BuzzCrap

Yes, it’s everywhere. You can’t escape it, it’s pervasive.

Fish for lunch… *rushes off to take fish out of the freezer*

The fish is now out of the freezer.

Battered, poached or baked, that is question. Whether ’tis nobler in the kitchen to cook and suffer.  The pots and pans of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of  culinary treats… with apologies to William Shakespeare.

There I go; off on my tangent again.

Must get off my tangent and blog along.

Later.

It’s been 5:30 all day…

saturdayMy wall clock stopped at 5:30am, so whenever I look at the clock it’s 5:30. Horribly disconcerting, because I am no nearer Saturday than I was drinking my first coffee this morning.

To top that, I have just discovered that yesterday’s post didn’t post! It’s still sitting there in ‘draft’… I have no idea what happened.

I have just posted it, so you’re in for two posts today. Oh, you lucky people!

Justice was done, btw. The pork ribs yesterday were just great.

Turned cold again overnight and rained; been cool all day too.

I have just discovered that it is after 3pm, too late to put the roast on for lunch, I’ll have to call it dinner instead. Seasoned pork with crusty cheese on top and roast potatoes of course..

I read today that Richard III was buried in an untidy grave… what did they expect? He’d have a housekeeper? My house would be untidy after centuries too. Wait, it’s untidy after a week, what am I talking about?

Also, Syria is to attend a peace conference… Now that’s a laugh, not for the Syrians though.

gayknot1As from 1st January, the scouts will be happier… well, at least some of them can now be gay.

They probably were anyway, but didn’t tell anybody.

Now the gay ones will want a badge…

I can just see the furore now… non-gay scouts can’t earn the badge!

Then one has to figure out how a gay scout promises to be ‘morally straight’ as required by the scout promise.

I can just imagine the relief of many parents who are aware of their child’s sexual orientation and not entirely comfortable with it. Kid comes home, “It’s okay Mom, I joined the scouts and I promised to be ‘morally straight’.” The Boys Scouts have achieved what the Bible couldn’t.

Pandora’s Box was actually a pithos (large jar) – image: Wikipedia

I say all that tongue-in-cheek, because I have a gay step-son who is now 28. He’s surviving besides the fact that his mother tried to get an evangelical church to bash his gayness out of him with the Bible. Didn’t work.

There’s more cans of worms to open on this, but I leave Pandora’s Box alone for now and go and tend to my roast.

Later.

It’s till 5:30…

I must change the battery and let some sanity back into my day.

I meant to, I really did…

coffeephilosophyI had the new post page open nearly all afternoon and had already selected the opening image, but didn’t get round to doing it.

Now I am running on coffee and making this the first post of the day.

I got to the supermarket yesterday and two more bottles of wine fell into the shopping cart. I just don’t understand how that happens.

Lately I have been getting so confused. Life used to be so simple when I had only one pair of shoes. Now I have two. Yes, I bought another pair. In the past I have always bought the next pair when the old pair fell off my feet; I believe in getting that extra mile. But I surpassed myself this time round.

When I had one pair, I always knew where they were; on my feet or on the base of the fan beside my PC when I wore my chinelos (flip flops). If they were on my feet, then my chinelos were waiting in front of my PC chair ready for me to slip into when I came home because I never wear shoes at home.

Now I have two pair and I can never find both of either pair at the same time… so confusing.

My one student today has cancelled. My weekend has started.

coffeesanityI could wash the dishes, I could put some wine in the fridge, I could sweep the yard, I could water my plants, I could take the rubbish out, I could get another coffee, then ponder which of these things I may or may not do. Life is so full of decisions. Decisions cause stress, and stress is the biggest killer; so it’s better not to make decisions, therefore no stress.

I found an apt description of the internet the other day. One that shows that humanity has not changed one iota in the past 4,000 or so years.

Despite our greater levels of technology, it’s true, we still write on walls and worship cats. We just do it faster.

goiabatreeMy goiaba (guava) tree is growing great. Four years and this year I am watching hopefully for flower buds.

Fresh goiaba juice is wonderful. Much better than the chemically standardised crap you buy in boxes in the supermarket.

I read an article sometime ago about how they get orange juice to always taste the same; they pluck it, they squeeze it, they concentrate it, they stuff it with chemicals, they dilute it, they sweeten it  and box it. Then they have the audacity to call it ‘natural’, what a load of bollocks, it’s false advertising. If they do it to oranges, they do it to all fruit.

I stopped buying boxed crap after reading that. I buy real fruit from the sacolão (fruit & vege shop) and do it the hard way, yes, I used a blender and don’t add sugar. More people should be doing this, much healthier, much tastier.

Blogging right along.

Later.

Help! I’ve lost my pencil…
