It’s doing the rain

Saturday-funny-quoteAnd, I didn’t even dance.

I was stuck for a title until it started to rain.

It’s a do nothing day. Like all Saturdays now, it’s screwed up. Blogging interrupted by work. Home, beer and Nap-fu practice.

Most exciting thing so far, the cheese mans been, bought cheese.

Need more coffee.

I’m gpoing to make this a quick post, because when we get heavy rain like this, it often puts the net down.

So, I’ll finish here and maybe…

Later.

Foggy Mental Breakdown

runThis’ll be short. It’s 15 minutes until tomorrow.

Another successfully screwed up Saturday; and another day for Dante and his inferno.

After class it was Nap-fu practice, then awakened by the heat, it was off to the botequim. I made some carpaccio filled with asparagus and capers for snacks.

The last thing on my mind was blogging. I managed one before class, and I have just finished the other eight; this is the last for the day.

November is upon us Tomorrow is Finados (Day of the Dead) where people will be visiting cemeteries for their annual pilgrimage.

I have just read that 2% of Anglican clergy admit to thinking that religion was concocted by man. Well, we’ve just got the other 98% to convince. Then we have to start on the Catholics…

It’s so hot that I’m going for a walk around the praça before trying to sleep.

Later.

And it came to pass…

He can have it back on Monday

He can have it back on Monday

That I have managed to complete my posts for the day.

This could well be a really screwed up Saturday. Not only do I have my regular classes, but I may/may not have another until 3pm. I don’t know as of yet. Oh, the things I do for my bossette.

I need more coffee… BRB

My students from last night’s group won’t know until the end of the month whether or not they are affected by the new factory edict. So there is still hope. If their class are cut, that will make a big hole in my pay.

Another hot, hot day anticipated. Weather forecast predicts rain on Monday, in the meantime we have to endure 40ºC+. Mind you, they forecast rain for last Wednesday and it didn’t.

Yesterday afternoon, I had my customary stroll around the praça, stopping the have a big conversation with the tortoiseshell cat from next door. She was just full of meows.

I was disappointed last night. I followed a comment on a post from 2011 and discovered that the image had disappeared. The site from which the image came was also down. On checking other posts, many images had disappeared. How disappointing. I will save more images and host them myself in the future. Nothing is forever.

On Ebola, a third US case who flew on two domestic flights while contagious. News that the UN effort is too little, too late, and not taken seriously enough. We will pay for that.

046da310a240a0ea2de122fd256580d5It’s time to put my underwear on the outside and become ‘Superteacher’!

Another of life’s riddles to solve…

Why do superheroes wear their underwear outside?

Screwed Up Saturday

onemorebeerToday is my first screwed up Saturday.

Class at 9:00, then again at noon. Home after 1:30pm.

I don’t like working Saturdays. Saturday is a day for beer and rest, then more beer. Repeat.

But, alas, not today.

I have been up posting since before five. By the time I get home, I’ll be knackered and only fit for Nap-fu practice.

This will probably be my last post today as I haven’t found anything suitable yet for Tomus.

My blog load for Satireday is usually light, except for here where I actually have to write something meaningful.

Looks like being a lovely sunny day out there. But it’s 7am, that could change.

Looks like my Twitter followers have broken the 1,000 barrier to stay, had 1,005 yesterday but that’s dropped to 1,003. I’m not overly worried, but it’s fun to watch the ups and downs.

bucket-list-picI saw a reference to ‘bucket lists’ yesterday. I don’t need a bucket list, I have a life.

To me a bucket list smacks of one-up-man-ship, keeping up with the Jones’, both attitudes that I hate.

My bucket list, if I had one would be things like wash the dishes, water the plants, sweep the yard and stuff. It may sound boring, but it’s life.

I was thinking the other day about these crazy people Boko Harum. The name means something like against western education. But they’re a bunch of hypocrites, they use guns and the internet… aren’t they the result of ‘western education’?

Putin’ his finger in the pie again. Warning the ‘west’ that there will be a reaction to more sanctions. Obviously the sanctions are hurting Russia more than he admits. He has hit back with sanctions of his own, but his sanctions are hurting his people more than the west. Terrible thing when your credibility is on the line.

grass greenerMy view of this Ukraine crisis is simple. If you don’t like Ukraine, or want to be Russian, bugger off over the boarder to Russia and be Russian.

If you think the grass is greener, jump the fence and find out if it really is.

I would hazard a guess and say that Russia wouldn’t like that, you wouldn’t be welcome.

That’s not the reason that Russia is interferring in Ukraine. They want a land corridor to Crimea.

The story does not end with this ceasefire; which I’m betting won’t last a week. Somebody will be putin’ his finger in the pie again.

I need more coffee!

Here’s thought… an irreverent one, but nevertheless a thought.

Skydome in Sketchup

Skydome in Sketchup

3D modeling is like “playing God” (in secular and vague terms) …

In the beginning God downloaded SketchUp. Now the earth was formless and empty, green was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over a blank canvas.

And God said —using the controls in the Shadows Settings dialog box at Window > Shadows, “Let there be light,” and He manipulated the shadows and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “UTC+01:00 13:30 11/8,” and the darkness He called “UTC+01:00 17:33 11/8.” And there was evening, and there was morning. God saved the settings —the first day.

I suppose I must move along and prepare myself to look like a teacher, instead of a blogger still in his pyjamas…

Horrid Stuff

baden_baden_stout_dark_ale_I mentioned yesterday that I had bought two bottles of stout in the supermarket.

It featured in my post What beer be this? today.

It’s bloody horrid. Not all stout-like. It has a brown head instead of the lovely near white of Guinness.

I had it with lunch. Now I can drink most things but the last inch went down the sink along with the rest of the bottle.

Life is full of disappointments.

The other bottle has left the fridge and will remain on the shelf until I can give it away.

All this unrest in the world. If the governments were doing their jobs, there wouldn’t be unrest. The unrest is simply the people saying “we’re not freakin’ happy.” Yesterday Rio returned to violence after the rise in bus fares which caused the original unrest in October. Now there is unrest in Bosnia along with the continued problem in Ukraine.

Why are the police attacking the protesters?

Why aren’t the police attacking the government for bad policies?

The paradigm is all up the shit. The problem is not the people, the problems lie squarely at the feet of the governments.

It is my opinion that anyone who wants to be a politician should be taken out the back and shot because they are inherently evil. Politicians should be elected from those nominated by the people, not chosen by political parties. The party system is crap, and gives us shitty politicians as a result.

I went out for sushi last night after work. I love my sushi, also it’s healthy. But I had too much wasabi and spent the night trotting off to the kitchen for iced water; so a very disturbed night.

The heat continues. Although this afternoon there has been some cloud, but it hasn’t reduced the heat. Hopefully the sun will be behind a cloud when I have to walk to work.

I posted this on another blog yesterday.

jesusenglish

Are there really people that bloody stupid?

For pities sake, Jesus wrote the Bible, and he did it in English…

Honestly, there are some people who need a brain transplant.

Must get ready to look like a teacher.

Oh, tomorrow is Saturday, so…

I wish to announce

VdeLobos

Red wine that didn’t get steaked

Today yesterday was Saturday.

My next question is…

Where the hell did it go?

I woke early, I blogged and then I napped.

When I woke again it was noon+30. What a good hour to have breakfast.

So, I lit the BBQ… That thing is going to become dangerous, if it hasn’t already.

I cut the rump steak into generous pieces and salted it then splashed red wine over it, I salted the tocino (strips of pork belly) and sprinkled curry over it.

It was about then that Saturday disappeared.

Later.

Saturday, at last!

saturdaycoffee

Saturday, coffee and wine glass in the background for later

Well, after a seemingly long day yesterday, I finally changed the battery in the clock. The world began to move again.

Saturday arrived.

I discovered one thing this morning, actually I have discovered it many times, but I was reminded once again of the importance of drinking coffee before the news. I read this headline “Swedish idiots spread beyond the capital!” The I reread it… “Swedish riots…” Oh the folly!

188_Cerveja_Itaipava_Long_Neck_Premium_Pilsen_355_mlToday I don’t have class; my students actually came for a Friday night class so they could drive off into the mountains to Itaipava for the weekend. It’s a place where they bottle water and call it beer.

I call it “Itaipagua!”

The advertising says it’s 100%… yeah, water.

So the day is free of encumbrances. I plan to do nothing, and fully expect the day to be a success.

My ‘nothing’ today will be, do the dishes, so I can make more dishes to do.

I will make mint sauce. I love mint sauce with roast lamb. But as you can’t get decent lamb here, I find it goes well with roast pork; just a little break from tradition  there.

You remember those horrendously expensive shrimps that I got the other day, well I’m going to fry them off in batter, make a tartare sauce and have them with an Italian frizzante wine that is chilling out in the fridge. I know, I said that I would save them for a special occasion, but ooooh the temptation…. Besides, it’s either that or cold roast pork sandwiches; that’s a no contest.

Jerusalem artichokesRemember a few days ago, I said that you waste a day if you don’t learn something new… Well, yesterday I discovered that it is not only cabbage, beans and eggs that make you fart. Apparently Jerusalem artichokes can too.

They are the root of a variety of sunflower.

I didn’t know they existed until I read about them on a blog. They are used to make a liqueur called Topinambour as well. I don’t know if the liqueur makes you fart. Honestly Google is so devoid of information on important issues.

emeraldrockCrack… I have no interest in drugs, but last week on Globo (Brazilian TV channel) they had a series of reports about ‘crack’. Included in the info was that crack had reach the Amazon Indians and creating havoc; but also in a place called Sonho Verde (Green Dream), I think, where the garimpeiros (miners) trade a stone for a stone (an emerald for crack) while underground. Man, that is expensive. But is shows how desperate you get for the drug when you are hooked; and apparently you are hooked from the very first taste.

I’ll stick to my coffee, ciggies, booze and blogging for my fun.

Time to blog along.

It’s been 5:30 all day…

saturdayMy wall clock stopped at 5:30am, so whenever I look at the clock it’s 5:30. Horribly disconcerting, because I am no nearer Saturday than I was drinking my first coffee this morning.

To top that, I have just discovered that yesterday’s post didn’t post! It’s still sitting there in ‘draft’… I have no idea what happened.

I have just posted it, so you’re in for two posts today. Oh, you lucky people!

Justice was done, btw. The pork ribs yesterday were just great.

Turned cold again overnight and rained; been cool all day too.

I have just discovered that it is after 3pm, too late to put the roast on for lunch, I’ll have to call it dinner instead. Seasoned pork with crusty cheese on top and roast potatoes of course..

I read today that Richard III was buried in an untidy grave… what did they expect? He’d have a housekeeper? My house would be untidy after centuries too. Wait, it’s untidy after a week, what am I talking about?

Also, Syria is to attend a peace conference… Now that’s a laugh, not for the Syrians though.

gayknot1As from 1st January, the scouts will be happier… well, at least some of them can now be gay.

They probably were anyway, but didn’t tell anybody.

Now the gay ones will want a badge…

I can just see the furore now… non-gay scouts can’t earn the badge!

Then one has to figure out how a gay scout promises to be ‘morally straight’ as required by the scout promise.

I can just imagine the relief of many parents who are aware of their child’s sexual orientation and not entirely comfortable with it. Kid comes home, “It’s okay Mom, I joined the scouts and I promised to be ‘morally straight’.” The Boys Scouts have achieved what the Bible couldn’t.

Pandora’s Box was actually a pithos (large jar) – image: Wikipedia

I say all that tongue-in-cheek, because I have a gay step-son who is now 28. He’s surviving besides the fact that his mother tried to get an evangelical church to bash his gayness out of him with the Bible. Didn’t work.

There’s more cans of worms to open on this, but I leave Pandora’s Box alone for now and go and tend to my roast.

Later.

It’s till 5:30…

I must change the battery and let some sanity back into my day.

You Can’t Disturb Me!

See, I’m already disturbed.

Today is Saturday, it must be, because every calendar I have read today tells me it is.

The sun is shining, it has the prospects of being a beautiful day with the promise of 30°C (about 86°F), which means great beer drinking weather.

Yesterday I had my partial plate fitted, it’s not as uncomfortable as I thought it would be. It still isn’t supporting the wiggly tooth, that comes next Friday, but it has filled in a couple of gaps and makes eating a little easier.

I brought new socks yesterday too; real socks, not the stupid little socks I got by mistake.

I have decided the world is a circus…

Because it’s full of freakin’ clowns. The latest clowns to enter the arena are the Russians with their stupidity over Pussy Riot and banning Gay Pride parades for 100 years. Then there’s the American clowns, Swedish clowns and the British clowns doing their slapstick routine over Julian Assange’s asylum. The Israeli clowns are ready to blow the lid off the Middle East abetted by the American clowns. The Australian clowns have shot themselves in the foot over the colour of the ‘plain packs’ for cigarettes, they chose the most masculine colour around, olive green; nothing exudes masculinity like military association. The Iranian clowns entered the stage telling the world to sod off with their humanitarian earthquake aid, then back peddled. The American clowns are sulking, because their new toy didn’t work… again.

Yes, the world is a circus. A sorry sad state of affairs, it’s no wonder that I am disturbed already.

Anyway, on with the business of being Saturday.
